Grade 12 Supplementary Exam Rescheduled: New Dates Announced by NEB

Grade 12 Exam Rescheduled

17th September 2025, Kathmandu

In a move to provide clarity and stability to a large number of students, the National Examination Board (NEB) has officially released the revised timetable for the Grade 12 supplementary examinations.

Grade 12 Exam Rescheduled

The exams, which were originally slated for Bhadra 28 and 29, had been indefinitely postponed following the violent turn of recent student protests.

The new schedule, published by the Examination Controller’s Office for Grade 11 and 12, confirms that the exams will now be held on Ashwin 7 and 8, 2082.

This announcement brings a much-needed end to the uncertainty that has been a source of stress for thousands of students and their families across the country.

The original postponement was a direct consequence of the widespread Gen-Z protests that saw significant civil unrest in and around Kathmandu.

The volatile environment made it impossible to ensure the safety of students and staff, and to conduct the examinations in a fair and secure manner. The decision to reschedule was made to prioritize the well-being of the examinees while also ensuring the academic calendar could move forward.

This new schedule is a clear signal that the NEB is committed to ensuring that students have the opportunity to complete their education without further delay.

According to the newly released timetable, the exams will be conducted over two consecutive days, with a clear breakdown for students appearing in one or two subjects. This structured approach aims to streamline the process and minimize confusion for all candidates.

On Ashwin 7:

The first day will be dedicated to a key compulsory subject. The exam for Compulsory English (0041) will be held on this day. The NEB has provided specific instructions for candidates with multiple subjects. For students appearing in only one subject, their exam will be held for that specific subject on Ashwin 7.

However, for those candidates appearing in two subjects, the exam will be conducted for the subject with the smaller code number. This is a crucial detail for students to note to avoid any mix-ups.

There is also a special instruction for candidates who need to appear for both compulsory English and compulsory Nepali. They must sit for the English exam on the first day and the Nepali exam on the second day, regardless of the subject code.

On Ashwin 8:

The second day of the supplementary exams will be for the remaining subjects. For candidates appearing in two subjects, the exam will be held for the subject with the larger code number.

The NEB has explicitly stated that the compulsory English exam will not be held on this day, as it has been exclusively scheduled for the 7th of Ashwin. This detailed and specific guidance is essential for students to prepare their study schedules and manage their time effectively.

The announcement comes after a period of anxious waiting for students who were unable to clear their regular Grade 12 exams. For many, these supplementary exams are a critical second chance to secure their academic future and gain eligibility for further studies or career opportunities.

The postponement, while necessary for safety reasons, had added a layer of anxiety and disruption to their preparation. The new dates provide a definitive timeline, allowing students to focus on their studies without the constant fear of further delays.

The National Examination Board has also advised all students to stay in close contact with their respective schools and examination centers for any further updates or clarifications.

Students are also reminded to carefully check their admit cards for exam center details and to strictly follow all the rules and regulations to ensure a smooth examination process.

The publication of this revised schedule is a positive step forward, restoring a sense of normalcy for the students and the national education system, which has been significantly impacted by the recent protests.
