Himalayan Bank Relocates

The branch will now be officially known as the Baluwatar Branch and will offer a full suite of modern banking services. The relocation was formally inaugurated by the bank’s Chief Executive Officer, Ashok Shumsher Rana, along with other senior management officials. This move is part of the bank’s broader strategy to enhance customer convenience and adapt to changing demographics and business needs in the Kathmandu Valley.

Strategic Rationale for the Relocation

The decision to move the branch from Chabahil to Baluwatar was the result of a comprehensive analysis of various factors. While the old Chabahil-2 location had served its purpose for several years, it had begun to face challenges such as limited parking space and increasing traffic congestion, which made it less convenient for customers. The new location in Baluwatar was chosen because of its strategic importance as a growing commercial hub. Baluwatar is home to a number of government offices, diplomatic missions, and a burgeoning residential population with increasing financial needs. By establishing a presence in this area, Himalayan Bank aims to not only better serve its existing customers by reducing their travel time but also attract new clients from the expanding business and residential communities in the vicinity.

The new branch, situated in the N L Complex, is a significant upgrade from the old facility. It offers a more spacious and comfortable environment for customers, with upgraded interiors and modern counters. These improvements are designed to facilitate higher transaction volumes and provide a more efficient and pleasant banking experience. The bank’s leadership believes that the improved infrastructure will allow staff to handle a larger customer base while maintaining a high standard of service.

Comprehensive Services and Technological Integration

The Baluwatar Branch will provide a complete range of retail and corporate banking services, mirroring the comprehensive offerings of Himalayan Bank’s extensive network. Customers can access all standard banking products and services, including:

Savings and Current Accounts: Facilitating basic financial transactions for both individuals and businesses.

Loan Facilities: Providing access to personal, home, and business loans to support various financial goals.

Remittance Services: Handling both domestic and international remittance transactions, a critical service for many Nepali families who rely on income from abroad. The bank’s proprietary online money transfer software, HimalRemit is one of the top remittance service providers in Nepal, with ties to financial institutions across the Middle East, Gulf region, UK, Australia, USA, Japan, South Korea, and other countries.

Trade Finance: Offering specialized services to support import and export businesses.

Digital Banking: The branch is fully equipped to handle inquiries related to digital banking, credit cards, and wealth management, reflecting the bank’s commitment to technological innovation.

To ensure seamless operations, the new branch is integrated with state-of-the-art digital infrastructure. This enables real-time transactions and secure data handling, providing customers with the flexibility to conduct transactions remotely using Himalayan Bank’s mobile and internet banking platforms. This combination of physical presence and digital capability is central to the bank’s customer-centric growth strategy, which prioritizes both convenience and security.

Himalayan Bank’s Expanding Network and Market Position

With the inauguration of its Baluwatar Branch, Himalayan Bank further strengthens its position as one of the largest and most reliable private banks in Nepal. The bank’s wide network and its recent merger with Civil Bank Limited have solidified its standing in the financial market. The bank’s vast presence includes 174 branch offices, 20 extension counters, 286 ATMs, and over 15,000 remittance payout centers spread across the country. This extensive reach is a testament to the bank’s commitment to financial inclusion, ensuring that it can serve a diverse clientele ranging from large corporate clients to individuals in remote rural areas.

CEO Ashok Shumsher Rana emphasized that the new branch is more than just a new location; it is a physical manifestation of the bank’s long-term strategic vision. It represents a commitment to continuous improvement, with plans to make the Baluwatar branch a model for future renovations and relocations across the network. The bank’s focus on investing in digital security, staff training, and sustainable banking practices is designed to ensure that every branch offers services that meet international standards of reliability and efficiency. This strategic relocation underscores Himalayan Bank’s belief that accessibility, modern infrastructure, and community engagement are key to building long-term relationships with clients and maintaining its leadership position in Nepal’s evolving financial sector.
