Huawei Seeds for the Future Nepal 2024 Opens Registration: Empowering ICT Talent for a Connected Future

Huawei has opened the registration for its ‘Seeds for the Future Nepal 2024’ today. Undergraduate students can register through its dedicated website www.seedsnep.com till June 9. The announcement has come in Seeds for the Future 2024 inauguration event at Hyatt Place, Kathmandu.

Seeds for Future NepalSeeds for the Future Nepal 2024 is Huawei’s fourth year of consecutively organizing the ‘Seeds for the Future’ program in Nepal. Through this comprehensive program, Huawei has promoted an ICT ecosystem in Nepal by facilitating in-depth ICT sessions on digitalization, innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainability.

The inauguration event started with the welcome speech of Huangjun, CEO of Huawei Nepal where Andrew Peng CTO of Enterprise Business presented the keynote. H.E. Chen Song, Ambassador of China to Nepal; Bishwo Babu Pudasaini, Secretary of Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Division; Bhola Thapa, Vice Chancellor of Kathmandu University graced the event with their presence. Other Government Officials, deans and professors from various universities, and Chairman and CEOs from various organizations were also there.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Nepal His Excellency Ambassador Chen Song, shared, “Huawei is a leading provider of ICT solutions that has been dedicated to building a better-connected world for 25 years in Nepal. Seeds for the Future program is a shiny example to nurture young talent and foster innovation in Nepal. This innovation initiative reflects the values of knowledge sharing and capacity building that are crucial for the advancement of any society.”

The secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Bishwo Babu Pudasaini shared,” The presence of Huawei has been truly transformative not only through your business endeavors but also through your continuous support of local talent programs like Seeds for the Future along with campus recruitment, knowledge transfer, and university collaborations have provided our young minds with invaluable opportunities to grow and excel in ICT sector.”

The CEO of Huawei, Huangjun, shared, ” This program embodies Huawei’s commitment to nurturing the brightest minds and fostering technological innovation and cross-cultural exchange. The experiences and knowledge gained through this program will empower our young talents to become leaders in the digital transformation of Nepal. They are the seeds that will grow into the future innovators, entrepreneurs, and tech leaders of the nation.” He has encouraged all to actively participate in this event.

The Head of Office and UNESCO Representative of Nepal, Michael Croft, said, “UNESCO and Huawei have a global partnership working worldwide to advance science technology and education because we share common values in these areas. We did it with a view to the fact that this is the first year of the international decade for science and sustainable development.

This is another auspicious way to take forward in real terms what the international decade is calling us to do.”

The Vice Chancellor of Kathmandu University, Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa, shared,” In the era defined by rapid technological advancement, the importance of nurturing local talents cannot be overlooked. Huawei’s Seeds for the Future program stands as a testament to the power of collaboration nd mentorship in unlocking the potential of our students empowering them to become the architects of digital Nepal.”

The Dean of the Institute of Engineering, Tribhuvan University Prof. Dr, Shashidhar Ram Joshi, shared, “Programs like Seeds for the Future are very impactful for our students. I’ve seen our students have gained invaluable ICT skills, empowering them for the digital age. This program equips our youth to drive innovation, foster entrepreneurship, and propel Nepal’s growth in the global tech landscape.”

This year Huawei has formed a diversified jury board involving government, academia, and industry experts. Ministry of Education, Science and Technology is also here as the co-organizer and UNESCO as the strategic partner.

This two months’ competition will have multiple phases of interviews, assignments, and presentations. The winner of the ‘Seeds for the Future Nepal’ will have the exciting opportunity to travel to China for onsite training and regional competition. During their visit, they will be attending seminars on cutting-edge technological innovation by industry experts.

About Seeds for the Future 2024 Nepal:

Seeds for the Future Nepal is a flagship CSR program by Huawei, launched in Nepal in 2021, aimed at inspiring global talent to shape the future. This program offers participants immersive experiences that blend learning and cultural exchange, with students visiting Thailand, Singapore, and China for regional rounds in the past. Globally, Seeds for the Future has benefited over 18,000 students from 141 countries since its inception in Thailand in 2008. In Nepal, outstanding students engage in a series of activities including college tours, workshops, and a bootcamp, culminating in a final interview and result announcement. Regional round includes a trip to China for the selected students, where participants will explore topics such as digital power, cloud, 5G, and AI. The regional program also features the Tech4Good competition, with regional champions advancing further to the global final again in China in 2025.
