Madan Bhandari Memorial College is set to organize a one-day national seminar on digital entrepreneurship and the start-up ecosystem in Nepal. The event, titled “Digital (ICT) Entrepreneurship and Start-up Ecosystem in Nepal,” will take place on 13th Jestha, 2082(May 27, 2025) at the college premises in New Baneshwor, Kathmandu.

The seminar is jointly organized by the School of Science and Technology of the college in collaboration with the University Grants Commission (UGC). According to Head, School of Science and Technology, Phulbabu Jha, the event aims to promote Nepal’s digital economy and innovation-driven growth.

Objective: Empowering Start-ups and Entrepreneurs

The seminar seeks to build awareness, inspire innovation, and strengthen the digital entrepreneurial ecosystem. It will focus on real challenges and opportunities for digital businesses in Nepal. The event will feature multiple sessions, including talks, panel discussions, and networking segments.

Jha explained that the seminar will help identify barriers faced by Nepalese start-ups and suggest practical solutions. It will also showcase case studies of successful national and international digital ventures.

The dialogue is expected to serve as a catalyst for socio-economic growth through digital transformation. A logical framework analysis will also be developed as a guiding document for aspiring entrepreneurs.

Session-Wise Breakdown of the Event

The seminar consists of six interactive sessions followed by a closing ceremony. The sessions will be led by experts from Nepal’s ICT industry, legal sector, financial institutions, and academia.

Session 1: Introduction to Digital Entrepreneurship in Nepal

The seminar will begin at 10 AM with an introduction to digital entrepreneurship and its growing role in today’s economy. This session will cover emerging trends in Nepal’s digital landscape. It will be led by well-known digital entrepreneurs and representatives from local tech start-ups.

Session 2: Building a Start-up Ecosystem

Starting at 11 AM, the second session will focus on the key elements of a successful start-up ecosystem. Speakers will highlight the importance of incubators, accelerators, and mentorship programs. Policymakers and ecosystem enablers will also share local success stories.

Session 3: Funding and Financial Opportunities

At noon, the discussion will shift to funding models for start-ups. Topics will include bootstrapping, angel investment, and crowdfunding. Venture capitalists and banking professionals will explain how start-ups can access capital and make effective investment pitches.

Session 4: Legal and Regulatory Framework

Following a brief lunch break, the fourth session will begin at 1:15 PM. Legal experts will guide participants through business registration, taxation, and intellectual property laws. They will also discuss government policies designed to support entrepreneurs and digital businesses.

Session 5: Skills and Resources for Digital Entrepreneurs

From 2:15 PM, the focus will turn to essential digital skills and resources. Experts will talk about areas such as digital marketing, data analytics, and project management. Representatives from training centers and edtech platforms will highlight practical learning opportunities.

Panel Discussion: Future of Digital Entrepreneurship

At 3:15 PM, a panel of entrepreneurs, investors, and educators will explore what lies ahead for digital start-ups in Nepal. The discussion will touch on global trends, diaspora engagement, and policy reform. Cross-border collaboration and remote investment will also be key themes.

Closing Ceremony and Certification

The event will conclude at 4:15 PM with a formal closing ceremony. Certificates will be distributed to participants. The seminar will wrap up with networking and refreshments, offering attendees the chance to connect and explore future collaborations.

The main outcome of the seminar is to promote a culture of entrepreneurship and digital innovation in Nepal. In addition to the main objective, the seminar is expected to yield the following results:

Organizers will soon open registration for students and start-up teams interested in attending. Jha stated that interested individuals can apply through an online form to be released shortly.
