A major initiative to boost world-class scientific research and technological development in Nepal has been announced. The International Conference on Information and Communication Technology and Photonics (ICTP 2026) is set to be hosted in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, next year.
Organizers formally announced the event during a recent press conference in Kathmandu. The conference is scheduled to run from February 11 to 14, 2026, at Hotel Hyatt Centric, Soaltee Mode.
Key Objectives and Significance of the Conference
The primary objective of ICTP 2026 is to enhance the quality of technical conferences and scientific publications in Nepal. Furthermore, it aims to solidify the research culture within Nepalese academic institutions.
The conference, jointly organized by the Research and Innovation Center for Nepal (RICON) and Nepal Engineering College (NEC), targets making meaningful contributions to the global scientific community by bringing together leading experts in cutting-edge fields.
Over 150 Research Papers and Global Participation
According to Er. Birodh Rijal, Secretary of the Conference, this international event will feature keynote presentations by distinguished professors and researchers from Nepal, Korea, China, India, and Vietnam.
With technical sponsorship from the IEEE, the ICTP 2026 expects more than 150 research papers from international contributors. It will facilitate in-depth discussions on the latest advancements and innovations in the fields of Information and Communication Technology and Photonics.
Dr. Arun Timalsina, Chairman of the IEEE Nepal Section, highlighted the role of IEEE in global technology standardization and the promotion of high-quality conferences.
Major Highlight: Special KAIST Workshop
One of the most significant aspects of ICTP 2026 is a special workshop on Global Digital Innovation and Impact, organized by the School of Global Digital Innovation (GDI) under the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), South Korea’s top research university.
This workshop will bring together government officials, policymakers, and digital governance leaders from various countries. Key topics for discussion include emerging policies for digital governance, AI strategies, and cross-border collaborations.
Organizers emphasized that this offers a rare opportunity for Nepal to learn directly from global experts and discover new pathways for national digital transformation.
