The agreement, signed at the IPPAN Secretariat in Kamaladi, marks a crucial step in aligning Nepal’s hydropower industry with global climate financing standards and promoting green investment opportunities.
Why This MoU Matters for Nepal’s Energy Future?
1. Supporting Nepal’s 28,500 MW Hydropower Roadmap
IPPAN President Ganesh Karki emphasized that this study will help Nepal attract green financing to meet the government’s ambitious target of generating 28,500 MW of electricity.
The study will provide policy recommendations to streamline climate-friendly investments in hydropower.
It aims to establish a clear green taxonomy framework, ensuring hydropower projects meet international sustainability standards.
2. Unlocking Green & Climate Financing Opportunities
As per the MoU, Pioneer L Associates will focus on:
Developing Nepal-specific green taxonomy guidelines for hydropower projects.
Advocating for policies that support a green energy transition.
Identifying climate and energy financing opportunities to boost Nepal’s hydropower capacity.
3. Learning from Global Best Practices
The study will analyze international green taxonomy models and recommend a customized framework for Nepal. It will also explore:
Carbon trading mechanisms
Public-private partnership models for hydropower development
