This event marks a significant milestone for Nepal’s automotive industry and trade. It is the first time that electric vehicles have used this alternative northern checkpoint for import.

The Korala border became a vital commercial route recently, following the closure of traditional checkpoints at Rasuwagadhi and Tatopani due to severe floods and landslides.

SPG Automobiles, the official distributor for Omoda and JAECOO in Nepal, confirmed the vehicles’ departure from Mustang. They anticipate the SUVs will reach Kathmandu within a couple of days.

This successful transit highlights the increasing viability of new trade routes and the growing demand for sustainable transport. The import via Korala border is a testament to the country’s adaptability in the face of logistical challenges. This development is particularly important for the expansion of electric vehicles in a diverse and challenging terrain.

A New Chapter for Nepal’s EV Market

The JAECOO J6 is a familiar and popular model in the Nepali market. Its counterpart, the J5, was officially unveiled for the first time during the recently concluded NIMA Mobility Expo 2025.

This dual arrival offers consumers a fresh and exciting choice in the electric SUV segment. To celebrate the festive season and this landmark arrival, SPG Automobiles has launched its “Festive Ride, Mega Drive” campaign.

The campaign aims to make these high-tech EVs more accessible to a wider audience, capitalizing on the high demand for vehicles during Dashain and Tihar.

Under this special offer, the JAECOO J5 is now priced at NPR 56.99 lakhs, a significant drop from its previous price of NPR 60.99 lakhs. Similarly, the J6’s price has been reduced from NPR 69.99 lakhs to NPR 65.99 lakhs.

These substantial festive discounts, combined with the convenience of an exchange bonus, a 7kW wall charger for home use, and one year of comprehensive insurance, provide a compelling package for potential buyers. These incentives are designed to ease the financial burden of purchasing a new electric vehicle and encourage the transition to clean energy.

Impressive Specifications and Market Impact

The JAECOO J5 comes equipped with a powerful 155 kW electric motor and a robust 58.9 kWh battery pack. It promises a commendable range of 402 km on a single charge, making it a strong contender for both urban commutes and longer road trips across Nepal’s diverse landscapes.

The J6, designed as a light off-road SUV, features a 135 kW motor and a larger 65.69 kWh battery pack. It delivers a solid range of 400 km, catering to adventurers and those who need a versatile vehicle for various terrains.

Both models reflect a global trend of incorporating advanced technology into automotive design. The J5’s potent motor and long-range battery, and the J6’s off-road capabilities, cater to a wide spectrum of consumer needs.

The introduction of such specialized electric vehicles signifies a maturing market in Nepal. It also shows a commitment to sustainable transport solutions.

The success of this import route and the attractive offers will likely set a precedent for other distributors and further accelerate the country’s shift towards electric mobility.

This development is a major step for Nepal’s automotive sector. It demonstrates the resilience of trade networks and the swift adoption of green technology.

As more consumers consider switching to EVs, the availability of diverse models with competitive pricing will play a crucial role. SPG Automobiles is leveraging this trend to expand its presence and drive the future of mobility in Nepal.
