For the justice of 13 years old Nirmala Panta who was raped and murdered in Kanchanpur, the citizen has initiated the trend #justicefornirmala in Twitter and other social media.
The trend came up after the government recklessness and negligence behavior towards the increasing number of rape cases and murder in the state.
By using the hashtag, the users are expressing dissatisfaction, raising awareness, seeking justice for Nirmala Pantal along with many other rape victims, whose perpetrators are not still brought under the law.
Nirmala was found murdered after being raped in a sugarcane field on July 27. On August 20 the District Police Office arrested mentally-ill Dilip Singh Bista, who confessed of killing Panta.
Numbers of protest has been organized throughout the country for Nirmala’s justice. There have been frequent clashes between the protesters and the police. On August 23 six civilians and two police were injured as the security forces fired bullets and over 150 teargas shells against demonstrators outside the District Administration Office.
My Republica states, on an average, four rapes have been reported every day and 120 every month in the fiscal year 2074/75 BS, according to a data released by the Nepal Police. That’s 1,480 rape cases a year.
