Jyoti Bikash Bank CSR: Saving Infant Lives with Baby Warmers in Nepal’s Rural Healthcare
3rd June 2025, Kathmandu
Jyoti Bikash Bank has taken a major step to support rural healthcare in Nepal. The bank recently provided baby warmers, life-saving machines for newborns, to three remote health posts. These devices help stabilize a newborn’s body temperature and prevent hypothermia, a common risk in cold, high-altitude areas.

The bank installed the equipment in Ghartigaun Health Post in Rolpa district, Arjunchoupari Health Post in Syangja district, and Purtighat Health Post in Gulmi district. These locations do not have Jyoti Bikash Bank branches, but the bank still prioritized them due to their urgent healthcare needs.
Promoting Safe Childbirth In Remote Areas
The baby warmers were handed over formally during special programs organized at the respective health posts. Mr. Kushal Jung Adhikari, Head of Marketing, Branding, and Deposit Sales at the bank, led the distribution. Local officials, health workers, and community leaders attended the ceremonies.
In addition to providing the machines, the bank arranged professional training sessions. Doctors, nurses, and health post staff received hands-on instruction from technical experts. These sessions aimed to ensure proper use and maintenance of the baby warmers.
More Than Just Equipment
This contribution is part of the bank’s larger commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR). Through its “Hamro Bikas Pravardhan Kosh” (Our Development Promotion Fund), Jyoti Bikash Bank has already distributed 62 baby warmers across Nepal. Every year, these devices help save more than 2,294 newborns by reducing complications caused by cold exposure.
Since the beginning of this initiative, over 11,470 newborns have directly benefited from the machines. The bank continues to expand its outreach to high-risk and underserved areas, especially where hypothermia in infants is more common.
Why Baby Warmers Matter
Hypothermia remains a leading cause of infant mortality in Nepal’s rural and mountainous regions. Many health posts lack proper equipment to keep babies warm after birth. Even in warmer seasons, temperature drops during nights can threaten a newborn’s life.
By installing baby warmers in such locations, Jyoti Bikash Bank is addressing a critical gap in maternal and child healthcare. The bank’s initiative not only saves lives but also raises awareness about the importance of postnatal care.
Leading In Corporate Social Responsibility
Among banks and financial institutions in Nepal, Jyoti Bikash Bank stands out for its dedication to social impact. It allocates more than 50% higher funds for social work than the average financial institution in the country. The bank uses its profits not only for business expansion but also for social transformation.
Its work shows that banks can play a direct role in improving public health and welfare. Instead of focusing solely on urban areas or places where branches exist, the bank reaches out to communities that need help the most.
Commitment To Good Governance
Jyoti Bikash Bank follows strong principles of institutional governance. It consistently works in the interest of its customers, employees, regulators, shareholders, and society. This trust-based approach has helped the bank grow and remain a reliable financial partner for thousands of Nepalis.
In the last fiscal year alone, the bank contributed approximately NPR 400 million to the national treasury. As of mid-January (Poush-end) of the current fiscal year, it has already paid NPR 150 million in taxes. These figures reflect the bank’s transparent and responsible operations.
Strong Network Across Nepal
The bank currently operates 121 branch offices, 3 extended counters, and 75 ATMs across the country. This wide network allows it to serve customers from both urban and rural regions effectively.
However, Jyoti Bikash Bank believes that service to the nation goes beyond banking. Its investment in medical equipment, education, and other social services reinforces this belief. The baby warmer initiative is just one example of how the bank puts this vision into action.
Looking Ahead
With Nepal still facing serious gaps in rural healthcare, the efforts of institutions like Jyoti Bikash Bank are crucial. By providing life-saving tools to the most vulnerable communities, the bank is not just supporting health posts—it is helping protect the lives of Nepal’s next generation.
Through such impactful programs, Jyoti Bikash Bank is sowing seeds of positive change and leading by example. It continues to show how financial institutions can help build a healthier, safer, and more inclusive Nepal.
