The Department of Commerce, Supplies, and Consumer Protection has intensified its monitoring of businesses in Kathmandu. On Sunday, the department conducted inspections at seven commercial establishments, taking strict action against several for violating consumer protection regulations.

Violation of MRP Labeling
Ananda Traders, located in Kathmandu Metropolitan City Ward-22, was found to be selling goods without displaying the Maximum Retail Price (MRP). The department responded by imposing an NPR 200,000 fine on the business. This action follows a violation of Section 16, Sub-section 2(a) of the Consumer Protection Act 2075, which mandates that all products must display their MRP.
The department has also instructed Ananda Traders to ensure that all future products carry the correct MRP labels. This measure aims to prevent misleading customers and ensure fair pricing in the marketplace. By enforcing this rule, the department is prioritizing transparency and consumer rights.
Suspension of Sales at Other Establishments
During the same round of inspections, Triyu Pharmacia and The Skin Pharmacy, both located in Budhanilkantha, were found to have irregularities in the sale of cosmetic and nutraceutical products. The department has suspended the sale of these items, pending further investigations into compliance with safety standards and proper sales practices.
The decision to suspend the sales of these products was based on concerns that these businesses may not be following the required regulations, particularly regarding consumer safety. The department has committed to further scrutiny before these products can be sold again.
Other Inspections and Directives
Apart from the fines and product suspensions, the department also issued various directives to other businesses. RK Shoes Collection received a general advisory to ensure full compliance with consumer protection laws in the future.
Additionally, businesses like Madhuganga Enterprises, Mitralal Paudel, and Sajilo Rental were asked to present necessary documents to the department for further review. This is part of the department’s ongoing effort to ensure that all businesses meet the required legal standards.

The Department of Commerce, Supplies, and Consumer Protection has emphasized that inspections will continue daily as part of its initiative to improve consumer protection in Nepal.
