Kathmandu Skill Mela 2081: Auto Trainees Get Personality Development Workshop
9th March 2025, Kathmandu
Kathmandu Metropolitan City recently hosted a personality development workshop for automobile trainees who completed their training through the Skill Mela initiative.
Kathmandu Skill Mela 2081
Held at the National Assembly Hall on Friday (9 March), the workshop aimed to prepare trainees for the ‘on-the-job training’ (OJT) program. It covered essential topics such as CV writing, interview techniques, professional promotion, and the requirements for OJT participation.
Part of the Employment and Income Enhancement Program
This workshop is part of the city’s broader ‘Employment and Income Enhancement, Prosperity for Kathmandu’ program. The goal is to help trainees acquire skills for employment and meet the expectations of potential employers. Engineer Shailendra Jha, a member of the Urban Planning Commission, emphasized the importance of displaying the right competencies and professional demeanor in the workforce.
Key Focus on CV Writing
Jha stressed the significance of a well-crafted CV. A solid CV is essential for showcasing skills and experiences to employers. The workshop advised trainees to create clear and factual CVs, reflecting their abilities and knowledge. A well-structured CV can lead to job opportunities and even open doors to different career paths.
Positive Results from Skill Mela 2081
During the Skill Mela 2081, 100 trainees completed automobile sector training, divided into two groups: 40 in auto-electric and 60 in electric vehicle (EV) sectors. Of those, around 50% were either employed, self-employed, or in the process of securing foreign employment. Others were enhancing their businesses to expand their capacity. The ‘on-the-job training’ program saw 51 trainees show interest, with 47 registering for the workshop and 30 actively participating.
Agreement with Changunarayan Foundation
Kathmandu Metropolitan City signed an agreement with the Changunarayan Foundation to ensure a minimum monthly wage of NPR 18,000 for trainees in vehicle maintenance under the OJT program. The wage will be split between the industry and the foundation, with each contributing NPR 9,000.
Focus on Skill Development and Employment
The metropolitan city is committed to enhancing workforce skills, certifying competencies, and transforming foreign employment desires into local opportunities. By encouraging collaboration between educational institutions and industries, the initiative aims to produce a skilled workforce that meets market demands.
