Kathmandu University (KU) recently celebrated its 34th anniversary in a special ceremony held at its central premises in Dhulikhel.

The key highlight was the Kathmandu University Anniversary Honoring Staff and teachers for their dedication and long service to the institution.
This event, which reinforces the university’s commitment to its human resources, saw the recognition of 22 retirees and 60 individuals who have completed over 25 years of continuous service since November 2019.
The university’s Executive Council had previously affirmed its decision to continue this recognition program, offering certificates and letters of appreciation in two categories. This annual celebration serves as a powerful testament to the collective efforts driving KU’s academic excellence.
Leadership Commends Staff Dedication
The ceremony was graced by key figures, including Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Achyut Prasad Wagle and Founding Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Suresh Raj Sharma, who presented the honors.
Addressing the gathering, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Wagle acknowledged the invaluable support he has received from professors and employees since assuming his role. He emphasized that this collective effort is crucial for elevating the university’s reputation to new heights.
A Look Back at KU’s Journey
Founding Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Suresh Raj Sharma shared nostalgic memories, expressing his delight at the progress KU has achieved, overcoming numerous challenges to reach its current esteemed position.
He highlighted the significant milestones, noting that the university has now produced over 50,000 graduates. Dr. Sharma proudly mentioned that KU contributes nearly half of the nation’s total physicians.
He recalled the pivotal roles played by himself and the former Dean, Dr. Narendra Bahadur Rana, in the early establishment of the institution.
ICIMOD Hands Over Key Responsibility
A significant development at the event involved Dr. Pema Gyamtsho, Director General of the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD). Dr. Gyamtsho officially handed over the secretariat of the Himalayan University Consortium (Himali University Network) to Kathmandu University.
He assured attendees that ICIMOD remains committed to continuous cooperation, underscoring that the transfer of responsibility does not signify an end to their involvement.
Trust and Love for the Institution
Professor Dr. Rajiv Shrestha, the Registrar of Kathmandu University, spoke about the recent Convocation Ceremony.
He remarked that the impressive attendance at the ceremony clearly demonstrated the public’s profound faith and affection for the institution.
Such strong participation, according to the Registrar, is a reflection of KU’s standing as a reliable and respected academic center.
Focus on Staff Development and Future Growth
The program also included discussions on the professional development and career advancement of employees and professors.
Hari Neupane, Director of the Planning and Development Division at Kathmandu University, along with Dr. Vikas Adhikari, President of the Kathmandu University Professors’ Association, and Surendra K.C., President of the Kathmandu University Employees’ Association, addressed the gathering.
They discussed crucial topics related to the future growth and betterment of the faculty and staff, ensuring that the human element remains at the core of the university’s strategic planning.
The event successfully acknowledged past service while setting a collaborative tone for the future of Kathmandu University Anniversary Honoring Staff and faculty. The collective commitment aims to sustain KU’s legacy of excellence in education and research.
