Kathmandu University Hosts First National Conference on Computer Innovations (NCCI 2025)

Kathmandu University, Department of Computer Science and Engineering (DoCSE), in collaboration with the Kathmandu University Computer Club (KUCC), successfully organized the first-ever student-led National Conference on Computer Innovations (NCCI 2025).

The 1-day conference served as a national platform for students, researchers, and academics to discuss the future of technology, research, and innovation in Nepal.
Formal Inauguration
The event was formally inaugurated by Professor Dr. Manish Pokharel, Dean of the School of Engineering at Kathmandu University. The ceremony was graced by several distinguished guests, including Professor Dr. Bed Mani Dahal, Dean of the School of Science, Assoc. Prof. Brijesh Adhikary, Acting Director of RDI, and Asst. Prof. Sailesh Chitrakar, Co-Editor-in-Chief of KUSET.
The leadership team included Professor Dr. Bal Krishna Bal as Conference Chair, Dr. Pankaj Raj Dawadi as Conference Convener, and Professor Dr. Gajendra Sharma as Publication Chair. The conference brought together faculty members, technical committee members, authors, and students, highlighting the collective effort in fostering a strong research ecosystem.
Keynote Highlights
Two experts delivered keynote addresses:
Professor Dr. Sudan Jha, Associate Director at ITC, Kathmandu University, presented “Strategic AI: Building Nepal’s Secure, Sovereign, and Sustainable Digital Economy”, emphasizing Nepal’s potential to build secure AI infrastructure.
Professor Dr. Bikash Nakarmi from NUAA, China, spoke on “Beyond Interference – AI2XPR: AI-Enabled Interference-Resilience Next Generation Photonics Radar”, focusing on integrating AI and Microwave Photonics for advanced radar sensing.
Parallel Sessions and Research Papers
The conference hosted four parallel sessions covering AI-driven solutions, cybersecurity, digital mental health, machine learning, and user experience (UX) in public services. A total of 22 peer-reviewed papers and one poster were presented. Sessions were chaired by distinguished academics, including Asst. Prof. Dr. Aman Shakya, Asst. Prof. Dr. Bhoj Raj Ghimire, Prof. Dr. Gajendra Sharma, and Prof. Dr. Sudan Jha.
Selected papers will be published in a special edition of Kathmandu University Science & Technology (KUSET) journal, ensuring the continuation of impactful academic contributions.
Messages from Organizers
Conference Chair Dr. Bal Krishna Bal highlighted that NCCI was designed to promote interdisciplinary dialogue and encourage young talent to collaborate freely on new ideas.
Conference Convener Dr. Pankaj Raj Dawadi emphasized that NCCI was born from the belief that Nepal needs a homegrown platform to nurture innovation and research culture. He also announced that the second iteration of NCCI will be held in 2026.
