JIS University’s 4th convocation ceremony, held on June 29, 2024, was a momentous occasion marked by the presence of distinguished guests and a thought-provoking address by Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa, Vice Chancellor of Kathmandu University.
The ceremony commenced with a formal procession and inaugural remarks. Esteemed guests included Prof. Subhasis Chaudhuri, Former Director of IIT Bombay, and Sardar Taranjit Singh, Chancellor of JIS University.
Dr. Thapa’s keynote address emphasized the rich educational heritage of South Asia. Referencing historical scholars like Aryabhata, he highlighted the region’s past as a global center of learning with renowned institutions like Nalanda and Takshashila.
He expressed concern about the decline in South Asia’s educational leadership and advocated for a return to traditional methods that balanced academic excellence with moral and cultural values.
Dr. Thapa cited Kathmandu University’s programs in Yogic Science and Indigenous Education as examples of integrating traditional knowledge with modern advancements. He emphasized the importance of regional and global collaboration, citing successful partnerships between Kathmandu University and the Indian Institutes of Technology.
The ceremony saw 1086 students graduating across various disciplines, including engineering & technology, management studies, and pharmacy.
Sardar Taranjit Singh, JIS Group Managing Director, spoke about the university’s commitment to fostering innovation and congratulated the graduates.
Dr. Thapa concluded by encouraging the graduates to use their education for positive change. The convocation ceremony served as a testament to JIS University’s dedication to academic excellence and its role in shaping future leaders.
