For the first time in Nepal’s financial sector, a wallet-based Recurring Deposit (RD) account facility has been introduced. Khalti, Nepal’s leading digital wallet, has launched ‘Smart Deposit’ in collaboration with Manjushree Finance.
Khalti Smart Deposit
Under this facility, Khalti users can regularly deposit a fixed amount for a specific period directly from their wallet and earn interest at a competitive rate. Savings can start from a minimum of NPR 100. Users can choose the deposit frequency – daily, weekly, or monthly – and the savings period, ranging from 6 months to 60 months.
Operating under the guidelines of Nepal Rastra Bank, the interest rate for this account will be applied according to Manjushree Finance’s monthly published RD interest rates. Users will be able to track their deposit status directly within their Khalti app, while the funds will be deposited into Manjushree Finance’s account.
Basant Dahal, Head of Business Partnerships at Khalti, states that this facility will be highly beneficial for cultivating a habit of saving and ensuring easy financial access. He believes that every individual can benefit from this ‘disciplinary investment tool.’

All users conducting financial transactions through Khalti can now easily open an account with Manjushree and manage their transactions. We believe this will save time spent visiting financial institutions to open accounts and make financial transactions even more convenient.”
