23rd May 2025, Kathmandu
Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli inaugurated the 10th National Congress of the National Youth Association Nepal (NYAN) with a strong message. He said UML stands firm in defending democracy, national sovereignty, and the people’s rights.

UML Will Lead Against Regression
Addressing thousands of youth participants in Pokhara, Oli declared UML would stay at the forefront of any movement against regression. He emphasized that no attempt to return to the monarchy would succeed.
“Some people are spreading illusions. They claim the monarchy will return based on an astrologer’s prediction,” Oli said. He criticized former Royal Astrologer Jagman Gurung for interpreting former King Gyanendra Shah’s horoscope to predict a return of the monarchy.
“That’s not enough. You must read the people’s horoscope,” he remarked. “Don’t dream of kingship again. The monarchy is gone, and the people will not accept it back.”
Warning to Reactionary Forces
Oli warned those pushing regressive narratives. He referred to recent comments that the Prime Minister might need a helicopter to escape. “Such outrageous statements reveal their mindset,” he said.
He urged the youth to stay vigilant. “Turn every regressive attempt into dust,” he said. “The Youth Association must stay alert and lead when needed.”
Internal and External Pressures on UML
PM Oli spoke about the rising pressure on the UML. “We are facing attacks from all directions—internally and externally,” he explained. “Despite that, we are here. That means we are following the right path.”
He dismissed the idea that UML is at fault. “If we had made mistakes, we wouldn’t be standing strong today. We are the party of policies, good governance, and development,” he said.
Speak Without Fear
Oli encouraged his supporters not to be discouraged by critics. “When someone supports UML, others label them as biased or loyalists. Don’t let that confuse or stop you from doing your duty,” he said.
He also criticized deliberate attempts to erase the contributions of UML. “Some people are spreading false allegations and trying to discredit our leadership,” he warned. “We must unite to break these lies.”
National Stability Is Key
The Prime Minister pointed to political instability in the country. He blamed those who have never practiced politics for creating uncertainty. “When the country is run by those without political experience, instability grows,” he said.
He explained that the current UML–Nepali Congress coalition aims to restore stability and good governance. “Some are shouting that the government will collapse soon. That is false,” he said.
“I will resign after 14 months,” Oli continued. “Then I will hand over the leadership to Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba to hold the next elections.”
Firm Stand Against Corruption
Oli reiterated his commitment to a corruption-free administration. “We are working with zero tolerance. We look at no one’s face. Anyone involved in corruption will face action,” he declared.
Consensus in Youth Leadership
Speaking directly to the youth leaders, Oli called for consensus and unity in leadership selection. “Not everyone can be in the leadership. But everyone has a role,” he said. “Don’t fight over positions. If consensus fails, compete cleanly.”
Senior Leaders Present
Several top UML leaders attended the program. Among them were:
General Secretary Shankar Pokharel
Deputy General Secretary and ICT Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung
Secretary Padma Aryal
Central Committee member Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal
Youth leaders Mahesh Basnet, Rajib Pahari, Nirudevi Pal, and Kiran Paudel
The presence of top leaders signaled the importance of the youth wing in UML’s political strategy.
Looking Ahead
Oli’s message was clear: UML remains the guardian of democracy and national sovereignty. The party will continue to resist any move toward autocracy.
The Youth Association Congress, which brings together young leaders from across Nepal, will elect new leadership and draft plans.
As the congress proceeds, the youth have been reminded of their duty—to defend democracy, promote unity, and act when the country calls.
