In a major step toward Nepal’s digital future, the Supercomputer Center at Kathmandu University (SCKU) has officially moved to the Nepal Technology Innovation Center (NTIC) in Dhulikhel.
KU Supercomputer Center Relocation
The relocation was marked by an official visit from Rt. Hon’ble Prime Minister and Chancellor of Kathmandu University, Mr. K.P. Sharma Oli, on June 13, 2025.
Prime Minister’s Visit Highlights National Commitment
During the visit, Prime Minister Oli reaffirmed the government’s commitment to advancing high-performance computing (HPC) in Nepal. HPC plays a critical role in strengthening research, innovation, and education.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Achyut Prasad Wagle welcomed the Prime Minister and provided updates on the Supercomputer Center’s operations. He also shared recent infrastructure upgrades and outlined future plans to expand access to HPC services for researchers and scholars.
Technical Briefings And Team Contributions
Mr. James Bhattarai presented a detailed technical overview of the center’s capabilities. He explained computing power, infrastructure design, and system scalability to the visiting dignitaries.
Registrar Prof. Dr. Rajeev Shrestha, along with faculty members Dr. Rajendra Adhikari, Mr. Sameer Tamrakar, and Mr. Keshav Raj Sigdel, supported the visit. They helped demonstrate how the center functions and highlighted collaborative achievements.
Minister Pant Applauds Innovation Efforts
The Prime Minister was joined by Pro-Chancellor and Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Mr. Raghuji Pant. He praised Kathmandu University’s vision and commitment to integrating cutting-edge technology into Nepal’s academic sector.
According to him, this initiative is a bold move to build digital capacity and promote scientific innovation in the country.
A New Era For Scientific Research
Relocating the Supercomputer Center to NTIC marks a new era for Nepal’s scientific infrastructure. It paves the way for advanced research, innovation, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
Kathmandu University now aims to provide wider access to HPC tools. This will benefit not only scientists and academics but also students and research institutions across Nepal.
