In a powerful address during a recent program in Oman, Kul Man Ghising, the former Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), passionately underscored the critical importance of the state recognizing and honoring Nepalese migrant workers.

Ghising emphasized the immense sacrifices made by those working diligently in Gulf countries, far from their families, whose remittances are a cornerstone of Nepal’s economy.
Highlighting their profound contribution, Ghising noted that Nepalese working across the Middle East—including Bahrain, Oman, the UAE, and Qatar—collectively send nearly NPR 700 billion annually back home.
This staggering figure represents approximately one-fourth of Nepal’s total GDP, making their hard-earned remittances indispensable to the nation’s economic stability and growth.
“The nation cannot achieve economic prosperity unless we establish a culture that respects labor,” Ghising asserted. He sharply criticized the prevalent mistreatment of migrant workers, often beginning right at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu.
He argued that these individuals, who are vital to the national economy, deserve solutions and support, not suffering. While acknowledging the current reality, Ghising also stressed the long-term goal of creating robust employment opportunities within Nepal, thereby reducing the necessity for citizens to seek work abroad.
Ghising extended a compelling invitation to all Nepalese to join the ‘Ujyalo Nepal Abhiyan’ (Bright Nepal Campaign). This movement, he explained, is far more than just about electricity.
‘Ujyalo Nepal’ symbolizes a broader, transformative vision for the nation, encompassing good governance, efficient public services, social justice, and achieving economic prosperity through a nationwide economic revolution. The campaign aims to foster hope and belief that substantial progress is indeed attainable within Nepal.
Currently on an extensive tour visiting Nepalese migrant communities in Bahrain, Oman, the UAE, and Qatar, Ghising has been actively engaging with workers.
He has been conducting interactive sessions, visiting their residential areas, and attentively listening to their concerns and understanding their living conditions firsthand.
During the program in Oman, Kul Man Ghising himself was honored by the Nepali community. This recognition was a tribute to his pivotal role in successfully ending the prolonged load shedding crisis in Nepal, a monumental achievement that significantly contributed to the nation’s energy sector.
His current advocacy for migrant workers further cements his reputation as a leader deeply committed to Nepal’s progress and the welfare of its citizens.
