This marks a pivotal moment for the university, which began undergraduate teaching just last fiscal year (2003/2004 AD | 2080/81 BS).
Registrar Mr. Reg Bahadur Bhandari confirmed that all preparations for the postgraduate courses are complete, with classes set to commence from the upcoming Nepali month of Asar. “Since FY 2080/81, we have been teaching undergraduate programs. From this Asar, we are starting our first-ever postgraduate programs,” he stated.
LTU will initially offer two postgraduate specializations: M.Tech in IT and M.Tech in Computer Science. The university received an impressive 38 applications for these programs.
The entrance examination was held on May 31, 2025 (Jestha 17, 2082), with regular classes scheduled to begin soon after.
Expanding Opportunities in Tech Education
The introduction of these postgraduate programs addresses the growing demand for specialized professionals in the tech sector.
M.Tech in IT Eligibility: Students holding undergraduate degrees in BCA, BIM, BIT, ICT Education, or BBIS are eligible to apply.
M.Tech in Computer Science Eligibility: A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering is required for this program.
While initially planning for 15 seats per program, the overwhelming response has prompted the university to increase the intake to 20 students for each program, demonstrating LTU’s commitment to accommodating aspiring tech leaders. Registrar Bhandari assured that all necessary infrastructure, including human resources, lab setups, and curriculum planning, is fully prepared for the new programs.
A Rapid Rise in Educational Excellence
Since its establishment on July 2, 2022 (Ashar 18, 2079 BS), Lumbini Technical University has rapidly expanded its academic offerings. It began undergraduate teaching with an orientation program on Mangsir 13, 2080, and currently offers four undergraduate programs under the Institute of Engineering and Information Technology:
B.Tech in IT
B.Tech in Computer Science and AI
B.Tech in IT Engineering
B.Tech in Civil Engineering
A total of 165 students are currently enrolled in these eight-semester, four-year programs, with the first batch now in their fourth semester.
For its first one and a half years, LTU operated from its administrative building in Nepalgunj. Demonstrating its growth and commitment to providing a conducive learning environment, the university has since Poush 2080 been conducting classes from three rented buildings in Dhamboji, Nepalgunj, previously occupied by the Agricultural Development Bank’s regional office.
This five-year lease also houses the Dean’s Office of Engineering and Information Technology.
Lumbini Technical University’s vision extends beyond traditional academics, aiming to provide quality education, result-oriented learning, job-oriented training, and to produce socially responsible graduates.
The swift launch of postgraduate programs within a short period of its establishment underscores LTU’s dedication to fostering technological advancement and innovation in Nepal. This move is poised to significantly contribute to the development of highly skilled professionals capable of addressing real-world challenges and shaping the future of technology in the region.
