Madan Bhandari University Admissions 2025: PhD & Master’s in STEM, AI, Agriculture, Infrastructure

Madan Bhandari University of Science and Technology (MBUST), established in Chitlang as Nepal’s first research-focused university, has announced admissions under the Institute of Applied Sciences for 8 PhD seats and 48 Master’s level seats in various disciplines.

Applications are invited in four key disciplines:
Organic Agriculture
Forest Biomaterial Science and Engineering
Sustainable and Resilient Infrastructure
Artificial Intelligence
For Master’s level students, the university will offer 25% to 100% scholarships, along with academic stipends for two students in each program. For PhD students, two students per program will receive 100% scholarships and a monthly stipend of NPR 20,000 for three years.
Similarly, two Master’s level students per program will receive a monthly stipend of NPR 12,000 for two years. Each program has 2 seats for PhD and 16 seats for Master’s level. Students opting for self-funded study will be required to pay an annual fee of NPR 150,000.
The university’s Master’s and PhD programs in applied sciences are centered on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). The Organic Agriculture and Forest Biomaterial programs aim to develop sustainable technologies for the value-added utilization of agricultural and forest products. The goal is to leverage cutting-edge research and technology for the sustainable management of agricultural and forest resources, with environmental, economic, and social benefits. These programs are especially designed to meet the future demands of agriculture- and forest-based industries both locally and globally.
The Sustainable and Resilient Infrastructure program aims to promote rural tourism through the development of homestays, tea houses, trekking trails, and related services as part of sustainable infrastructure to boost local economic development.
The newly introduced PhD in Artificial Intelligence is designed to train students to become capable scientists who can apply advanced AI methods to complex challenges in technology, health, agriculture, environment, good governance, and crisis management. All programs are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)and promote socially responsible, ethical, and relevant research.
Teaching will be conducted by faculty members with experience in national and international universities and research institutions. These professors bring decades of collective academic and practical experience. According to the university’s policy, faculty must have at least a PhD and proven research experience. Currently, the university is served by faculty with backgrounds from leading institutions in Asia, Europe, and North America.
