The electric vehicle (EV) segment is witnessing a significant evolution in capacity and technology.
Mahindra EV Tech
Mahindra is set to introduce the largest electric SUV in its portfolio, a “game-changing” 7-seater model, which will debut in just two weeks. This launch marks a major strategic move in the rapidly growing global EV market.
The company will officially unveil the 7-seater SUV, the XEV9s, at the Mahindra EV Tech ‘Screem Electric Event’ scheduled for November 26 and 27 in Bengaluru, India.
Until now, the market for large electric vehicles primarily offered 5-seater electric SUVs and 7-seater Multi-Purpose Vehicles (MPVs).
The XEV9s breaks this mold by introducing a 7-seater model directly into the high-demand SUV segment. This strategic expansion leverages advanced digital and automotive engineering to meet family and luxury travel demands.
Integrated Technology: A Digital Cockpit
The XEV9s is positioned as an all-in-one solution combining luxury, performance, and cutting-edge technology. The in-car experience is a powerful demonstration of Mahindra EV Tech. Key features showcase a high level of digital integration:
- Triple Screen Setup: The driver and front passenger interact with a massive 12.3-inch triple-screen system, integrating the instrument cluster, infotainment, and potentially a dedicated co-driver display.
- Premium Audio: A sophisticated 1400-watt, 16-speaker premium music system by Harman Kardon elevates the acoustic experience.
- High-Performance Computing: The vehicle is powered by a high-end computing unit featuring a Snapdragon processor, enabling complex tasks from ADAS to seamless infotainment.
- Advanced Comfort: Luxury is digitized through features like memory function, electric power adjustment, and ventilated driver’s seats, multi-zone air conditioning, and dedicated AC vents for the second and third rows.
These integrated digital features position the XEV9s as a genuine ‘smart vehicle,’ where software defines the user experience and functionality.
The INGLO Platform: Engineering for Electric Performance
The foundation of the new XEV9s is the specialized INGLO (IN-dia GLO-bal) electric origin platform. This platform is a cornerstone of Mahindra’s ‘Born Electric’ vision, which has already seen significant success, with over 30,000 EVs built on the INGLO platform already sold.
The INGLO platform is engineered to deliver superior ride quality and handling. It features a sophisticated five-link independent rear suspension system coupled with frequency-dependent dampers. This advanced setup actively manages road feedback, providing a smooth and controlled ride irrespective of the terrain.
- Design Flexibility: The platform is designed with a standard Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) system but is easily adaptable for All-Wheel Drive (AWD) variants, which the XEV9s is rumored to include.
- Optimized Space: A hallmark of the INGLO architecture is its flat floor, which maximizes cabin space and allows for the seven-seater configuration without compromising passenger comfort.
- The ‘Frunk’: The design smartly utilizes the space under the front bonnet to include a full-sized ‘Frunk’ (front trunk), providing additional, easily accessible storage for owners.
Safety, Software, and Superior Sunroof
Safety technology is a priority, evidenced by the inclusion of Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems). This system uses an array of sensors, cameras, and the powerful Snapdragon computer to offer features like adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, and automatic emergency braking, significantly enhancing driving safety.
For connectivity, the SUV will support wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ensuring effortless smartphone integration. The XEV9s distinguishes itself from previous ‘Born Electric’ SUVs like the BE 6 and XUV 9E, which had fixed glass roofs, by featuring a dual-panel panoramic sunroof that can be opened.
This design choice allows for easy airflow and enhances the luxury feel of the cabin, combining technological advancement with practical comfort.
The upcoming launch of the XEV9s represents a crucial leap in the Mahindra EV Tech strategy, targeting the upscale, family-oriented segment with a vehicle that is digitally rich, safe, and built on a world-class electric platform.
