The new all-electric racer, featuring an eye-catching livery, represents an evolution of the team’s successful Season 11 car. The Indian team aims to build on its recent resurgence, targeting a spot in the top three of the Teams’ Championship.
The unveiling follows a highly successful Season 11 where the team dramatically improved its performance. Mahindra Racing finished the season P4 in the teams’ championship.
Crucially, they scored more points than the previous three seasons (Seasons 8, 9, and 10) combined. This upward trajectory sets a high bar for the new campaign.
Consistency in Driver Line-up
Continuity provides the foundation for Mahindra’s Season 12 efforts. The team retains an unchanged driver line-up, keeping their experienced duo for another year.
Nyck de Vries, the former Formula E World Champion, and Edoardo Mortara, a proven race winner, will pilot the new M12Electro.
The partnership ensures stability as the team focuses on fine-tuning the Gen3 Evo package. Their combined expertise will prove invaluable in the close-quarters championship fight.
Consistency is key, and the team intends to capitalise on the strong relationship between its drivers and engineers.
Evolution of the Race Machine
Mahindra Racing refers to the M12Electro as an “evolution.” The team’s CEO and Team Principal, Frederic Bertrand, stresses that consistency remains the cornerstone of their plan.
The M11Electro introduced major hardware changes and marked a turning point. The focus now shifts to optimisation and marginal gains.
De Vries noted that the changes from the previous year are not as drastic as before. He highlights the importance of minute details, especially software updates, to gain a competitive edge.
Heading into the final year of the current-generation cars before Gen 4 arrives in 2026, the grid is expected to cluster together. Teams must be attentive to every detail to maintain an advantage.
Striking New Identity and Partnerships
The M12Electro features a fresh, metallic red, gloss white, and carbon black livery. This bold look reflects the team’s renewed determination.
As a founding team of Formula E, the car proudly displays 12 stripes, symbolizing its 12 years in the all-electric racing championship.
Mahindra also strengthened its connection with its automotive division. The M12Electro prominently carries the company’s ‘Born EV’ logo, linking the race-to-road technology transfer. This integration highlights the role of Formula E as a testing ground for future electric mobility.
Technical Collaboration with Valvoline
A key addition to the team’s partner roster is Valvoline, coming on board as an official partner. This technical collaboration will focus on developing and testing advanced e-fluids and gearbox technologies.
This is a critical area for enhancing efficiency, durability, and overall on-track performance in electric racing.
Jamal Muashsher, President and CEO of Valvoline Global, stated that Formula E offers the ultimate testing ground for innovation.
The partnership is a commitment to proving that high performance and sustainability can coexist effectively. Such technical alliances are vital in the technologically advanced world of Formula E.
The Taste of Victory
Mahindra Racing’s Season 11 saw them secure five podium finishes, a significant achievement. However, a race victory remained elusive.
For Season 12, Team Principal Frederic Bertrand is clear about the ultimate goal. He hopes to add the “taste of victory” and hear the Indian national anthem played on the podium.
The team will get their first official taste of the new M12Electro at the pre-season test.
All teams will participate at Valencia’s Circuit Ricardo Tormo from October 27-30. The Season 12 championship then kicks off with the São Paulo E-Prix on December 6, 2025.
Kush Maini’s Increased Role
Indian racer Kush Maini will continue with Mahindra Racing as the reserve driver for Season 12. He previously held the role in Season 10.
Maini now steps into an increased support role. His duties will involve participating in the Formula E rookie test and practice sessions.
He will also attend as many races as possible around his other racing commitments. Maini has expressed his pride in continuing with the team.
He views it as a great environment to continue his development as a driver while contributing to the team’s ongoing success. His consistent presence ensures a strong link between the reserve and race drivers.
