In a significant turn for media ethics and institutional integrity, Dhanphe Nepal TV has issued a formal apology to The British College (TBC), Thapathali.
Media Outlet Apologizes Conspiracy
The outlet admitted to publishing a series of false, misleading, and unverified video reports targeting the educational institution.
Media Admission of Fact-Checking Failure
Dipesh Kumar Jaiswal, the Owner and Editor of Dhanphe Nepal Media Pvt. Ltd., a company registered with the Department of Information and Broadcasting, wrote to the College acknowledging that content was aired without proper verification.
The outlet confessed that several video clips were produced under external pressure and based on biased information provided by specific individuals and a small group of former students.
“The media company accepts full responsibility for this mistake and wrongful act,” the statement read, offering an unconditional apology to the TBC management, faculty, students, and parents for the “mental, social, and institutional harm” caused.
Extortion Allegations and Police Custody
The smear campaign appears linked to a broader conspiracy involving financial extortion. Bibek Dhakal, a former student, is currently in police custody facing charges for allegedly threatening the College and attempting to extort NPR 3 million. Authorities suggest that media pressure was weaponized to facilitate personal financial gain.
In its corrective video statement, Dhanphe Media specifically named Priyanka Nepal and Bibek Dhakal as the sources of the false information. As a result, the outlet has retracted and removed all defamatory content from its digital platforms.
Investigation into Priyanka Nepal’s Activities
Sources indicate that Priyanka Nepal allegedly orchestrated a disinformation campaign to demand large sums of money. Key allegations include:
Financial Demands: Attempting to extract up to NPR 2 crore per student by influencing Dubai-based students to return to Nepal and join the agitation.
Family Involvement: Leaked audio recordings involving Bibek Dhakal reportedly mention a demand from Priyanka’s mother for NPR 5 million to cease social media attacks.
Harassment: Multiple social media videos document Priyanka Nepal’s personal harassment of teachers, staff, and fellow students.
Before enrolling at TBC, reports indicate she was expelled from another Kathmandu college and faced visa rejections from the USA and Australia.
Current Legal Standing
The British College has officially suspended Priyanka Nepal for harassment, character assassination, and unauthorized filming of staff. Despite mediation efforts involving the Ministry of Education and police intermediaries, she has reportedly refused to cooperate.
The Cyber Crime Bureau of Nepal Police is currently investigating her social media activities to determine the full extent of the digital harassment and conspiracy.
Official Statement: For further details and the institution’s full position, The British College has published a comprehensive statement on its official website.
