In a significant development for Nepal’s burgeoning electric vehicle (EV) market, the popular UK-based automobile news portal, Top Gear, has released its highly anticipated list of the world’s “Top 20 Electric Cars.”
MG4 EV Nepal ranking
Among a lineup of global powerhouses, the MG4 EV has secured an impressive 6th place, making it the highest-ranked and, notably, the only vehicle on the list currently available in the Nepali market.
This prestigious ranking by a globally recognized authority like Top Gear speaks volumes about the MG4 EV’s credentials. The list is led by the Renault 5 in the first position, followed by the high-performance Hyundai Ioniq 5 N and the ultra-luxury Rolls-Royce Spectre.
The Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model 3 round out the top five, placing just ahead of the MG4. Other notable EVs in the top ten include the Kia EV3, Volvo EX30, Skoda Elroq, and Dacia Spring.
Top Gear’s criteria for selecting these top EVs go beyond just flashy exteriors. The online magazine, known for its in-depth and expert reviews, emphasized factors like vehicle range, charging capabilities, equipment, dynamic performance, and distinctive styling.
The MG4’s high placement suggests it excels in these key areas, proving its worth as a well-rounded and compelling package.
The MG4’s success is particularly relevant to Nepali consumers, who have embraced the EV revolution with growing enthusiasm. The vehicle’s availability in Nepal, while other top-ranked cars remain out of reach, positions it as a market leader.
It offers a unique blend of global-class engineering and local accessibility. Available in two variants, the Comfort and Luxury, the MG4 caters to a wide range of needs and budgets.
The Comfort variant is equipped with a 51 kWh battery, while the Luxury variant boasts a larger 64 kWh battery. Both variants are powered by a 99 kW motor, providing a claimed range of up to 435 km on a single charge.
Beyond its technical specifications, the MG4 has also garnered significant accolades, cementing its reputation. It was named the UK Car of the Year 2023, a testament to its design and functionality.
Furthermore, its 5-star safety rating from Euro NCAP, one of the world’s most rigorous crash-testing organizations, ensures peace of mind for drivers and passengers.
The car’s safety features include rear ISOFIX anchors for child seats, a reverse camera, front-side airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and a seatbelt reminder.
What truly sets the MG4 apart in its segment is its mechanical sophistication. The company highlights its independent suspension and rear-wheel-drive configuration, which, according to the manufacturer, are features not commonly found in other EVs in the same price bracket in Nepal.
This setup contributes to a more engaging and stable driving experience. On the convenience front, the MG4 includes a mobile Bluetooth key, five distinct driving modes (Eco, Sport, Snow, Custom, and Standard), and a user-friendly touchscreen infotainment system.
For Nepali consumers, the MG4 presents an exceptional value proposition. The Comfort variant is priced at Rs. 41.49 lakh, and the Deluxe variant at Rs. 49.99 lakh.
This pricing, combined with the vehicle’s global recognition, advanced features, and robust safety ratings, makes it a top contender for anyone looking to enter the world of electric mobility.
The MG4’s prominent feature on Top Gear’s list serves as a powerful endorsement, affirming that the Nepali EV market is not just keeping pace with global trends, but is a key player in the future of sustainable transportation.
