Windows 11 Unveiled:
Microsoft has unveiled its next-generation operating system, Windows 11, in a virtual event.
Windows 11 features a streamlined new design, with pastel-like colors and rounded corners, and a more Mac-like look.
The Windows Start menu has moved from the bottom left of the screen to the middle, with app icons arranged in the center next to it. You’ll also find widgets that give you information on the weather, stocks, news, and more.
Features:
The new system also includes a feature called Snap Groups — collections of the apps you’re using at once that sit in the taskbar and can come up or be minimized at the same time for easier task switching.
You can also set up virtual desktops in a way that’s more similar to Macs, toggling between multiple desktops at once for personal, work, school, or gaming use.
Microsoft Teams will also be built directly into Windows 11, becoming a more FaceTime-like chat app.
The new software will allow Android apps to run on the Windows desktop.
Product Manager Panos Panay said small, quick security updates would come, and they will be in the background.
Windows 11 will allow users to configure multiple desktops for work, home, and gaming, just like on a Mac.
According to Microsoft, there are currently about 1.3 billion devices running Windows 10 worldwide.
An early preview version of the new system will be released next week for app developers.
Windows 11 will be available as a free update for current Windows 10 users. However, some devices do not have the exact specification. It will require a minimum of 64 gigabytes of storage and 4 gigabytes of RAM.
The most recent change is that the Start button, previously located at the bottom left, will now be in the lower center of the screen.
Additionally, Windows 11 features tight integration with Microsoft’s communications platform Teams. Xbox Game Pass, a subscription service offering access to hundreds of games, will be pre-installed.
The app store could share more profits with creators and developers – as rival Apple faces challenges in its business model.
Earlier, when Windows 10 was launched in 2015, Microsoft said it would be the last version of the operating system.
But after this announcement, it was said that Windows 10 would retire in 2025.
