The Embassy of Nepal in Thailand hosted a special discussion session in Bangkok. Minister Paudel used the opportunity to connect with health policy experts, students pursuing medical education, and professionals working in Thailand’s healthcare sector.
In his remarks, Minister Paudel emphasized the importance of learning from international experiences. He stated that Nepal is working actively to expand and improve health services. The ministry is also focusing on policy-level reforms in health insurance. He welcomed suggestions from the Nepali community and acknowledged their insights as useful in shaping better strategies back home.
“We are trying to improve healthcare delivery using the resources we currently have,” he said. “Your experience can be a valuable guide as we move forward.”
Participants in the interaction included health professionals, entrepreneurs, and developers who are contributing to Thailand’s health ecosystem. Some of them are working on digital health service platforms, while others are involved in policy and clinical practice.
Several Nepali tech professionals shared their work on health service applications. They said they are ready to expand these digital platforms to Nepal. Their goal is to make healthcare more accessible and efficient back home through digital innovation.
Health insurance experts also took part in the program. They provided a detailed explanation of Thailand’s health insurance model, focusing on how it supports a wide range of citizens, ensures access, and balances public-private sector roles.
Nepal’s Ambassador to Thailand, Dhan Prasad Oli, praised the contributions of Nepalese working in Thailand’s health sector. He noted that many of them are involved in medical education, practice, policy, and business. According to him, their experiences can help unlock new areas of cooperation between Nepal and Thailand, especially in health and education.
The session also allowed for two-way dialogue. Minister Paudel listened to challenges faced by Nepali professionals abroad and discussed how the government can better utilize their knowledge. He emphasized the importance of building stronger networks with the diaspora to boost the development of Nepal’s health infrastructure.
Minister Paudel also shared updates on Nepal’s current health reform efforts. These include efforts to make health insurance more inclusive, improve infrastructure in government hospitals, and create better career pathways for health professionals. He mentioned that public-private partnerships and digital health tools are key focus areas of the ministry.
According to his secretariat, Minister Paudel is scheduled to represent Nepal in various sessions and discussions at the UN Ministerial Conference. He will also meet with Non-Resident Nepalis (NRNs) in other parts of Thailand during his visit.
This initiative marks a shift in how Nepal’s health ministry is engaging with global Nepali talent, especially those working in critical sectors like healthcare and technology. By learning from Thailand’s successful health models and consulting with informed Nepalese abroad, the ministry hopes to accelerate reform, strengthen systems, and improve access to quality care for all Nepalese.
