According to Minister Yadav, this United Nations-organized event will play a crucial role in guiding Nepal’s water supply and sanitation sector towards a new and improved direction.
Minister Yadav made these remarks while participating in the ongoing conference, which is being held from June 30 to July 3, 2025.
During the conference, Nepal’s national commitment to ensuring safe water and sanitation for all was conveyed to the international community. Minister Yadav emphasized that lessons learned from the shortcomings identified at the 2022 Ministerial Conference have led to a refined and more effective implementation strategy, now driven by high-level political engagement.
“Just as Nepal’s success in becoming an open defecation-free nation in 2019 demonstrated, our current goal is to ensure safe, inclusive, and sustainable water supply and sanitation services,” Minister Yadav stated. He added that Nepal is actively adopting strategies for rapid progress by learning from the experiences of other countries.
Minister Yadav expressed confidence that the initiatives in the water supply and sanitation sector, spearheaded by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, will serve as an exemplary model not only within Nepal but also on the international stage.
He stressed the critical need for financial resources: “It is challenging to address the structural hurdles in the water supply and sanitation sector without ensuring financial resources for development and their effective utilization.” He further noted, “This conference, attended by Right Honourable Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, will strengthen our national efforts and reinforce the long-term investment, public-private partnerships, and international cooperation essential for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.”
The core objective of this visit, Minister Yadav clarified, was to present Nepal’s national commitment to the international community: strengthening the necessary financial frameworks to guarantee access to safe drinking water and sanitation for everyone, an initiative led by the Head of State.
“From the 2022 Ministerial Conference, we reviewed our country’s water, sanitation, and hygiene status,” he said. “This commitment, advanced from a high political level by addressing the identified shortcomings, will accelerate implementation.”
Drawing inspiration from other nations, Minister Yadav stated that Nepal aims to achieve swift progress by leveraging this renewed commitment. He reiterated, “Nepal’s success in becoming an open defecation-free nation in 2019 was made possible by high political leadership, and building on that success, we now aspire to ensure safe and sustainable water and sanitation services for all.”
Minister Yadav concluded by affirming that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s commitment marks a significant stride towards providing safe, inclusive, and sustainable water and sanitation services for all Nepalese.
