MoH Mobilizes Contact Staff Across 7 Provinces for Nepalese Election Health Management
4th March 2026, Kathmandu
As Nepal prepares for the House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5, 2026 (Falgun 22, 2082), the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has taken a critical step to ensure public safety.
MoH Mobilizes Contact Staff
In a formal notice, the Ministry announced the appointment of dedicated contact officers to manage and coordinate health services during the election period.
With the potential for election-related incidents or medical emergencies at polling stations, these appointments are part of a broader national strategy to maintain an uninterrupted healthcare net for voters, security personnel, and election staff.
Strengthening the Health Emergency Response
The Health Emergency Operation Center (HEOC) is leading the coordination efforts. According to the Ministry, specific responsibilities have been assigned to:
Central Level: Six key officers have been designated at the federal HEOC in Kathmandu.
Provincial Level: Contact persons have been appointed for all seven provincial Health Emergency Operation Centers.
These officers will serve as the primary link between the Ministry, local hospitals, and the Election Commission to handle any health-related crises that may arise during the voting process.
Strategic Healthcare Measures for Election Day
The deployment of contact officers is just one layer of the government’s medical preparedness plan. Key measures currently in place include:
Hospital Readiness: Major institutions like Bir Hospital have already formed Rapid Response Teams (RRTs). Bir Hospital’s 26-member team, led by specialists, is on standby with emergency medical supplies.
Staffing Mandates: The Ministry has directed health workers to remain on duty, urging them to postpone non-essential leave to ensure that hospitals across the country are fully staffed.
Cross-Ministry Coordination: The MoHP is working closely with the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Election Commission to ensure ambulances and emergency medical teams can navigate potential road blockades or security cordons.
Why This Matters for Nepalese Citizens
The 2026 elections are a landmark event for Nepal’s democracy. By assigning specific contact officers, the government aims to mitigate risks associated with large public gatherings and potential political clashes.
“Our goal is to ensure that every Nepalese citizen can exercise their right to vote knowing that medical assistance is immediately available if needed,” stated a spokesperson from the Ministry.
Key Contact Information
While the Ministry has released internal lists to provincial offices, citizens are encouraged to contact their nearest local health post or the central HEOC hotline in case of emergencies at polling centers.
