Motoring Academy Launches in Nepal: A New Era for Automobile Research and Innovation
31st August 2025, Kathmandu
A groundbreaking initiative has been launched to address the long-standing gap in automobile research, education, and technical training in Nepal.
Motoring Academy Nepal
The new Motoring Academy, officially announced during the “Policy Dialogue on Automobile and Better Mobility,” aims to transform the nation’s transportation landscape by fostering innovation and creating a new generation of skilled professionals.
This move is particularly significant for a country where a lack of institutional research has hindered progress in vehicle policy, technology, and safety.
The academy’s establishment is a collaborative effort between Motoring Nepal and the Nepal Automobiles Association, with crucial support from leading international federations.
Among the key partners are the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), International Road Federation (IRF), and the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM).
The presence of dignitaries, including FIA Vice President Greg Craft and representatives from both domestic and international universities, at the policy dialogue underscores the global importance and recognition of this initiative.
A Comprehensive Approach to Skills and Safety
The Motoring Academy isn’t just a training center; it’s designed to be a hub for comprehensive skill development and a catalyst for a safer, more professional automotive culture. Its curriculum is divided into several key areas, each meticulously crafted to meet different needs within the industry:
The new Motoring Academy offers a multifaceted curriculum designed to cater to various aspects of the automobile and motorsports sectors.
In the Racing category, the focus extends beyond the competitive aspect to include skill development, safety protocols, and talent identification.
Courses will delve into motorsport engineering, advanced driving techniques, and race strategy, all with the goal of instilling a strong safety culture in competitive racing. For everyday motorists, the Driving Training program provides a full spectrum of services, from license preparation to customized learning plans, with a core mission to promote safe driving practices and reduce road accidents.
Similarly, Riding Courses are tailored for two-wheeler enthusiasts, emphasizing rider safety, technical proficiency, and responsible riding to foster a community of skilled and knowledgeable riders.
Lastly, the Touring Activities section promotes knowledge sharing and community engagement through organized tours, enabling enthusiasts to enhance their skills while exploring new routes and cultures.
The academy’s focus on practical training and theoretical knowledge in vehicle maintenance, safety, and advanced driving technologies is a direct response to the prevalent issues on Nepal’s roads. By raising awareness about proper vehicle upkeep, it seeks to contribute to a healthier and more reliable vehicle ecosystem.
Management and Global Context
To ensure its activities are professionally managed and aligned with its mission, the academy has formed a seven-member management committee.
Led by Er. Mahesh Adhikari, the committee includes representatives from prominent academic and sports institutions like Tribhuvan University’s Institute of Engineering and the National Academy of Sports Science (SAN), ensuring a blend of academic rigor and practical expertise.
The establishment of this academy places Nepal on a global stage, aligning its efforts with renowned international organizations. Institutions like the FIA Institute, FIM Academy, and organizations such as the International Road Federation and SAE International have been at the forefront of institutional research and innovation for decades.
The new Motoring Academy in Nepal aims to emulate their success and integrate a similar culture of research and development into its own operations.
The academy’s secretariat will be run by Motoring Nepal, an organization with a strong track record of social initiatives within the country’s automobile sector.
Financial and material support from the FIM (€5,000) and the Nepal Automobiles Association (50 lakh rupees) has provided the necessary seed funding to get this vital project off the ground.
This initiative is a powerful step towards building a self-sufficient, innovative, and safe automotive ecosystem in Nepal. It promises to fill a critical void, offering new opportunities for aspiring engineers, drivers, and riders, and paving the way for a future where homegrown expertise drives the nation’s transportation progress.
The academy represents not just a new institution, but a new chapter in Nepal’s journey towards better mobility and a smarter, safer future on its roads.
