In a landmark decision poised to reshape the landscape of Nepal’s automobile sector, the NADA Automobiles Association of Nepal is gearing up for a historic transformation.

NADA Special General Assembly

On September 9, 2025 (Bhadra 24, 2082), the association will convene a Special General Assembly to formally elevate its status and become a federation.

This move, a culmination of over a decade and a half of sustained effort and aspiration, marks a significant milestone in the organization’s journey.

The crucial announcement was made following the 21st Central Executive Committee meeting of NADA, held on August 24, 2025 (Bhadra 8, 2082).

NADA General Secretary, Surendra Kumar Upreti, in a press release, highlighted the long-awaited nature of this decision, noting that it fulfills the deeply held desires of the association’s members.

The Special General Assembly, scheduled to take place at The Plaza, Jhamsikhel, Lalitpur, has been specifically called to endorse and ratify this pivotal decision, which is expected to usher in a new era for NADA.

The decision to transform NADA into a federation is not merely a change in nomenclature; it is a strategic and structural upgrade aimed at strengthening the organization’s influence and broadening its scope.

As a federation, NADA will be better positioned to represent the interests of its diverse members across the country, encompassing everything from vehicle importers and dealers to spare parts traders and service providers.

This expanded structure will allow NADA to operate on a truly national level, providing a more robust platform for advocacy and policy dialogue with the government and other stakeholders.

For years, NADA has been the apex body of the automobile business community in Nepal, playing a vital role in organizing the annual NADA Auto Show, promoting sustainable business practices, and acting as a crucial liaison between the private sector and government agencies.

The new federated structure is expected to enhance these roles, enabling the association to more effectively lobby for favorable policies, address industry challenges, and protect the rights and interests of its members on a larger scale. This organizational restructuring is seen as a necessary evolution to meet the growing complexities of the modern automobile market in Nepal.

The transition to a federation status is also a testament to the growth and maturity of the Nepalese automobile industry itself. With an increasing number of brands, a growing consumer base, and the rapid adoption of new technologies, the industry requires a stronger, more unified representative body.

The NADA federation will be better equipped to navigate issues such as electric vehicle (EV) policy, taxation, import regulations, and infrastructure development. The move is a proactive step to ensure the industry’s sustained growth and stability in the long run.

In its official statement, NADA has urged all its members to attend the upcoming Special General Assembly to ensure maximum participation and to show a united front in this historic moment. The collective endorsement of this decision is crucial for the successful implementation of the new structure.

The transformation is poised to not only benefit NADA and its members but also contribute to the overall economic development of Nepal by fostering a more stable and progressive automobile sector. The eyes of the entire industry are now on September 9, as NADA prepares to turn a new page in its history.
