The global space apps challenge is an international mass collaboration which focuses on collaborative problem solving to produce solutions to address global issues.
International Space international is an annual event, and it is happening in Kathmandu, Nepal hosted by Space Apps Kathmandu, Nepal Astronomical Society, MSA (Madhav Space Agency) in Himalayan Whitehouse International College, Tinkune.
Space Apps us an international hackathon for coders, scientists, designers, storytellers, maker’s builders, technologists and other cities around the world, where teams engage with NASA’s free and open date to address real-world problems on Earth and in space.
This year the challenges include:
Earth’s Oceans: From beaches and salt marshes to the open ocean, sea ice, and the seafloor, Earth’s oceans are dynamic. This challenge category will ask you to use NASA data to understand better and protect Earth’s oceans.
Our Moon: Challenges in this category will ask you to think creatively about our nearest neighbor, and to interpret NASA data and concepts to find solutions.
Planets near and far: This challenge category will ask you to use NASA data to explore the systems of other worlds, near and far.
To the stars: Challenges in this category will invite you to think hard and be creative about space science and exploration, whether your viewpoint is scientific, technologic, artistic – or all three
Living in Our World: Challenges in this category will ask you to craft solutions using NASA data- a story, a game, a video, any product of your design – that capture what it’s like to live on earth.
This event will help build the capacity of Nepal’s youth tech community in the development of application and tools. The objective of organizing the Space Apps Challenge is to participate in different teams to complete for global challenges, bringing in perspectives and insights from the local level. At the same time, it also helps to bring stakeholders from different sectors to work on important issues.
