Nepal’s NAST Ranks 3rd Globally Among 60 Nations For Digital Innovation
31st December 2025, Kathmandu
In a major milestone for the Nepalese technology sector, the Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) has secured the third position globally in an international video competition highlighting the success of Information Access Centers (IAC).
NAST Ranks 3rd Globally
Competing against 60 centers from 45 countries, Nepal’s achievement underscores its growing influence in the global digital landscape.
The Journey of the Nepal-Korea Information Access Center (IAC)
The project was initiated following a proposal submitted by NAST to the Government of the Republic of Korea under the Official Development Assistance (ODA) program. With technical and financial support from Korea’s National Information Society Agency (NIA), the center was established to address the “Digital Gap” in Nepal.
MoU Signed: December 11, 2020
Official Inauguration: November 11, 2021
Primary Objective: To foster overall IT development and reduce digital inequality across Nepal.
Innovative Infrastructure: Stationary Labs and “Mobile Bus”
To ensure that technology reaches every corner of the country, the IAC is structured into two distinct formats:
Fixed IT Laboratories: Located at the NAST headquarters, these labs provide high-end training for university students, researchers, and government employees.
Mobile IAC (Mobile Bus): This “Center on Wheels” is a unique concept in Nepal. It travels across all seven provinces, delivering free IT education to schools and security personnel in remote areas.
Impact Statistic: Since 2022, over 12,000 Nepalese citizens have received free, high-quality ICT training through these facilities.
Inclusive Technology: Empowering the Visually Impaired
A standout feature of the NAST-Korea collaboration is its focus on inclusivity. The Korean government has provided advanced assistive devices specifically for visually impaired individuals.
NAST regularly organizes specialized training sessions to help this community leverage technology for a better quality of life, advocating for a nationwide expansion of these inclusive programs.
A Global Victory for Nepal
The recent competition organized by the NIA required centers to submit a 3–5 minute “Success Story” video. Despite challenges such as limited high-tech equipment and specialized manpower compared to developed nations, the Nepalese entry earned the 3rd Place globally.
This recognition is not just a win for NAST but a proud moment for the entire nation, proving that with strategic partnerships and local dedication, Nepal can compete on the world stage.
