8th January 2026, Kathmandu
In a significant move toward bridging the digital divide, the Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) has launched a specialized three-day digital capacity-building training program in Kawasoti, Nawalpur.
NAST’s Bus Digital Empowerment
The initiative, titled “Capacity Building Training on Innovative Digital Technology for Self-Employment,” is specifically tailored for the Tharu community.
Bridging the Digital Gap: The Role of Mobile IAC
Established in 2021 with support from the Korean government, the Information Access Center (IAC) under NAST’s Science and Technology Information System Center operates a unique Mobile IAC (Bus).
This high-tech bus travels across the country to provide digital literacy to marginalized communities, women, teachers, and students.
To date, this mobile initiative has reached all seven provinces of Nepal, benefiting over 12,000 Nepalese citizens by providing access to modern ICT tools.
Training for the Future: AI, Digital Marketing, and More
The current session, held from Poush 22 to 24 (January 2026) at the Tharu National Museum and Research Center in Danda, Kawasoti, features 23 competitively selected Tharu youth.
The curriculum is designed to equip participants with market-ready skills, including:
ICT Landscapes: Current status, policies, and regulations in Nepal.
Cyber Security: Understanding digital safety and modern challenges.
Artificial Intelligence (AI): Practical use of AI tools for daily productivity.
Content Creation & Digital Marketing: Strategies for social media and online branding.
Data Management: Techniques for data collection and analysis.
Driving Self-Employment Through Technology
Despite resource constraints, NAST has remained committed to integrating these programs into its regular schedule. Pradip Dhodari, Coordinator of the Information Access Centre (IAC), emphasized that the goal is to make participants self-reliant.
“These trainings provide the knowledge and skills necessary to make participants more effective and participatory in the modern economy. By mastering these digital tools, the youth can create their own employment opportunities right from their hometowns,” said Dhodari.
As Nepal moves toward a more digitized economy, initiatives like the Mobile IAC play a crucial role in ensuring that no community is left behind in the technological revolution.
