The Nepal Bankers’ Association (NBA), in collaboration with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and supported by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Government South Korea, successfully organized a digital awareness program titled “Knowing Your Digital Payment Services for Digital Empowerment.”

The event, held in Hetauda, Bagmati Province, aimed to enhance digital financial knowledge among banking officials, with a focus on front-line staff.

The program commenced with a warm welcome from Mr. Ashim Nepal of IFC Nepal, who outlined the key objectives of the event and discussed IFC’s ongoing Digital Financial Services project in Nepal. Mr. Nepal emphasized the importance of policy reforms in the digital financial sector, highlighting IFC’s efforts to assist Nepal Rastra Bank in this regard. He also stressed the need to improve digital financial literacy, particularly focusing on the security of digital services at the grassroots level.

Mr. Sanjib Subba, a recognized Digital Financial Services Expert, led an informative session, providing insights into the rapidly evolving landscape of digital financial services in Nepal. His presentation covered a range of topics, including digital payment products, cross-border payments, digital lending, and the critical issue of cyber fraud. Mr. Subba highlighted the transformative role of digitalization in the banking industry and underscored the importance of front desk officers in understanding and communicating these changes to customers. He also addressed the rising incidents of fraud in digital banking, emphasizing that customer awareness is crucial for both customers and banks.

A significant portion of the session was dedicated to exploring the potential of Generative AI (Gen AI) in empowering bank employees and improving operational efficiency through digital solutions.

Mr. Kapil Gautam of NBA concluded the program by thanking the participants for their active engagement. He acknowledged the numerous opportunities presented by digitalization but also warned of the challenges it brings. Mr. Gautam emphasized the importance of deepening understanding and knowledge of digital financial services and encouraged participants to share their learnings with their teams to ensure the widespread dissemination of the training’s benefits.

The program was attended by nearly 50 officials from member banks, marking a significant step forward in digital financial empowerment in Nepal.
