NBL Branches Remain Open

Nepal Bank Limited (NBL), the oldest commercial bank in Nepal, has taken proactive steps to ensure uninterrupted financial services for its customers by announcing that a selection of key branches will remain fully operational on Ashoj 12, 2082 (Sunday), despite the declaration of a public holiday. This strategic decision aligns with the bank’s commitment to prioritizing customer convenience and supporting the high volume of financial transactions that characterize the festive season, specifically the Dashain festival period.

Operational Details and Special Service Hours

The bank’s notice confirms that the designated open branches will provide essential counter-based banking services for a specific period during the day. The service hours for the operational branches on this public holiday are set from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM. This focused time window is strategically designed to accommodate the most urgent needs of both individual customers and institutions, including government offices and various commercial entities, whose financial activities peak during the Dashain festival.

Core Customer Services Available at Open Branches

The branches that remain open have been mandated to facilitate a critical range of services essential for maintaining liquidity and financial continuity across the economy. These services include:

Government Revenue and Payments: The ability to process revenue collection and government payments is a significant feature of this arrangement, ensuring that essential state financial operations can continue without delay during the holiday.

Cash Transactions: Crucial for the festive season, the branches will handle both cash deposit and withdrawal services, enabling customers to manage their increased festival-related expenses and deposits.

Fund Settlement and Clearance: To facilitate urgent and large-scale fund transfers, the bank will be processing Cheque clearance and Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) transactions.

General Counter Services: Customers will also have access to other necessary counter-based services to handle account inquiries and miscellaneous urgent financial tasks.

Geographic Coverage of Open Branches by Province

To ensure its commitment to nationwide service continuity is met, Nepal Bank Limited has carefully selected branches in strategically important locations across multiple provinces:

Koshi Province: Branches open in this eastern province include Biratnagar, Ithari, and Kathari Chowk.

Madhesh Province: Customers in the central Terai can access services at the Janakpur and Aurahi branches.

Bagmati Province: The Kathmandu Valley and surrounding regions are covered by the Kathmandu Banking Office (located in New Road), the Lalitpur (Jawalakhel) branch, and the Thimi Branch in Bhaktapur. The Head Office in Kathmandu will also be coordinating and supporting these operations.

Gandaki Province: Key economic centers in the mid-hills are covered by the Pokhara, Bharatpur, and Butwal branches.

Lumbini Province: Branches in this province, which is listed as being open, include Nepalgunj, Dhangadhi, Attariya, Surkhet, and Dailekh.

Sudurpaschim Province: The far-western region is specifically served by the Dhangadhi and Dadeldhura branches. The bank’s extensive list ensures that services are available across the country for maximum customer convenience.

Emphasis on Digital Banking and Customer Support

While providing essential in-branch services, Nepal Bank strongly encourages customers to utilize its robust suite of digital banking platforms, which operate continuously on a 24-hour basis. This push towards digital channels, which includes QR Payment, Mobile Banking (Connect IPS), and C-ASBA services, is aimed at promoting safety, efficiency, and allowing customers to manage their finances remotely, thereby reducing the need to visit a physical branch during the holiday.

For customers requiring guidance or additional information regarding the open branches or for urgent transactional support, the bank has established a dedicated support channel. Customers can contact the Nepal Bank hotline at 01-4248999 for direct assistance.

The bank’s decision to keep critical branches operational on a public holiday underscores its enduring commitment to customer service and its role in facilitating smooth financial activities for traders, government entities, and the general public throughout Nepal, even during the peak period of the Dashain festivities.
