Nepal Bank Limited issues Important Notice warning customers about a surge in fraudulent activities and scams
16th November 2025, Kathmandu
Nepal Bank Limited has issued an Important Notice warning customers about a surge in fraudulent activities and scams on various social media and communication platforms.
NBL Issues Warning Notice
The bank is emphasizing the need for extreme vigilance as fraudsters are impersonating the bank to deceive customers and steal sensitive financial data.
Understanding the Social Media Scams
Nepal Bank is reporting increased complaints regarding individuals and groups misusing the bank’s official assets—including its logo, images, fake email addresses, and deceptive links—across platforms like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, TikTok, WhatsApp, IMO, and Viber.
The most common types of scams mentioned in the alert are:
Fake Schemes: Deceptive offers such as fake loan approval letters, false announcements of lottery wins or gift schemes, and misleading online or part-time job offers. These are often designed to trick the victim into paying an upfront “fee” or sharing critical information.
Phishing Attacks: Scammers are actively replying to comments on Nepal Bank’s official social media posts, either asking for personal details or attempting to send scam links to victims, posing as bank representatives or staff.
The Bank’s Critical Security Mandate
Nepal Bank wants to unequivocally assure customers that it never asks for confidential information. This is the single most important rule to remember for online safety.
The bank explicitly states it will NEVER request the following sensitive details for any purpose, including KYC updates, card renewal, online shopping, or depositing money:
- OTP (One-Time Password)
- Links (outside of the official website)
- PIN codes (ATM or other)
- Passwords
Customers must NEVER share any of this sensitive information with anyone who contacts them, regardless of how official the communication appears. It is mandatory to follow recommended security practices and always be cautious of unsolicited requests.

To safeguard against fraud, customers are strictly advised to follow and engage only with the bank’s official channels. All genuine information, updates, and communications originate from these verified sources:
