The national flag carrier, Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC), has officially commenced Direct Kathmandu-Guangzhou Flights to China. This launch marks a significant milestone in the corporation’s Route Expansion, adding a major international connection.

This crucial new International Service will connect the Nepali capital to the bustling Chinese metropolis. The initial planned flight, originally scheduled for September 24 (Ashoj 9), faced a brief delay.

However, the inaugural commercial flight successfully departed on Saturday afternoon. This new route significantly strengthens NAC’s presence in the Asian aviation market.

Overcoming the Initial Delay

The first flight had an initial hiccup. On the originally scheduled date, several dignitaries and passengers had already arrived at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).

The corporation had to cancel the flight due to some technical issues. The airline quickly managed accommodations for the affected passengers, mitigating the disruption.

The successful inaugural flight took off shortly after the resolution of the technical matter. Spokesperson Manoj Kumar Sah confirmed the aircraft’s departure for Guangzhou on Saturday afternoon. It returned on Sunday, carrying 107 passengers, demonstrating immediate high demand for the route.

Schedule and Competitive Fares

Regular flights will now proceed according to the predetermined schedule. Nepal Airlines established a frequency of three flights per week to Guangzhou.

The initial flight schedule includes services on September 28 (Ashoj 12), followed by flights on October 16 (Ashoj 30), October 18 (Kartik 2), and October 22 (Kartik 6).

After completing this initial phase, the regular international service will establish a consistent pattern, operating three flights per week every Sunday, Tuesday, and Saturday, ensuring frequent travel options for passengers.

Pricing Structure

NAC has set competitive fares for the new route to stimulate demand. The one-way ticket price is fixed at Rs. 30,000. Passengers opting for a round-trip benefit from a reduced rate of Rs. 50,000. These fares compete directly with other carriers operating the route.

Expanding the International Network

The addition of the Direct Kathmandu-Guangzhou Flights route brings NAC’s total count of International Service destinations to 11 across 9 countries. This strategic growth highlights the corporation’s efforts to enhance global connectivity and improve its financial standing.

The route is expected to generate significant revenue. Guangzhou hosts a notable Nepali population, creating a consistent passenger base for both business and personal travel. This is a vital new source of income for Nepal Airlines.

Existing Destinations

NAC currently operates its fleet of four international aircraft—specifically two narrow-body and two wide-body jets—to a range of key destinations.

These routes span major cities across Asia and the Middle East, including: Doha (Qatar), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Dubai (UAE), Hong Kong (China), Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore (India), Bangkok (Thailand), Dammam (Saudi Arabia), and Narita (Japan).

This strategic route expansion solidifies Nepal Airlines’ position as a significant player in connecting Nepal to the international community.

The newly introduced service will provide a benefit to travellers by boosting competition alongside the existing operators on the route, which are China Southern Airlines and Nepal’s Himalaya Airlines.
