The long-awaited service is scheduled to begin on September 25, 2025 (Ashoj 9), opening up a new and convenient travel corridor for business travelers, tourists, and students alike.
This strategic expansion is a landmark achievement for Nepal Airlines, which has been steadily working to grow its global network.
The addition of Guangzhou, a major hub in southern China and a key commercial center, will not only enhance connectivity but also provide a competitive alternative for travelers on this popular route.
Until now, China Southern Airlines was the sole operator of direct flights between Kathmandu and Guangzhou, giving it a near-monopoly on the sector. With Nepal Airlines entering the market, passengers can expect more competitive fares and increased flight options.
The new route is expected to serve a variety of passenger segments. For the burgeoning tourism sector in Nepal, it presents an opportunity to attract a greater number of Chinese tourists. Similarly, for Nepali students and professionals working or studying in China, the direct flight will offer a more convenient and cost-effective travel solution.
The business community, in particular, will benefit from the reduced travel time and enhanced logistics, fostering stronger trade ties between the two nations.
“The launch of direct flights to Guangzhou is a major milestone for Nepal Airlines Corporation,” said a spokesperson for the corporation.
“We are confident that this new route will be a success, contributing to Nepal’s economic growth and strengthening the bond between the people of Nepal and China. We have received immense positive feedback and are preparing to offer a world-class travel experience on this sector.”
Guangzhou is a vibrant metropolis known for its trade fairs, historical significance, and a diverse culinary scene. Its strategic location makes it a gateway to other major cities in southern China and beyond, making it an ideal destination for Nepal Airlines to connect with.
The direct flights will reduce the need for layovers in other countries, shortening travel time and making the journey more comfortable. The announcement comes as Nepal Airlines continues its push to expand and modernize its fleet and service offerings.
The airline currently operates regular flights to several international destinations, including Narita (Japan), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Hong Kong, Doha (Qatar), Dubai (UAE), Dammam (Saudi Arabia), and Bangkok (Thailand), as well as to Indian cities like Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Delhi.
The new Guangzhou route will be a valuable addition to this growing list, showcasing the airline’s commitment to becoming a more prominent player in the regional aviation landscape.
With the first flight set to depart on September 25, travel agents and passengers are already anticipating the new service. Industry experts believe that the increased competition will not only benefit consumers but also stimulate the overall travel market between Nepal and China.
The Nepal-China air corridor has just become more accessible, and the future looks bright for travelers on both sides of the Himalayas.
