The new Kathmandu–Guangzhou–Kathmandu service is the first of its kind for Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC). This expansion brings the airline’s international reach to 11 destinations across nine countries.

The move is a major step in the airline’s efforts to strengthen its global presence and improve connectivity for Nepali and international travelers.

The official launch was announced by NAC Executive Chairman Yubraj Adhikari, who confirmed that all technical preparations for the new route have been completed.

The airline has received approval to operate three regular flights per week. The inaugural flight is scheduled for September 25, followed by subsequent flights on September 28, and a full regular schedule starting after the initial promotional period. Flights will then operate every Sunday, Tuesday, and Saturday.

Competitive Pricing and Growing Demand

Nepal Airlines has set the one-way fare from Kathmandu to Guangzhou at Rs. 30,000, while a round-trip ticket will cost Rs. 50,000. This competitive pricing is expected to attract a significant number of travelers.

The route is particularly popular with the large Nepali population residing in Guangzhou and surrounding areas, as well as business travelers and tourists.

The addition of Nepal Airlines to this sector gives travelers more options and a choice of carrier, which can lead to better service and fare competition.

Currently, the Kathmandu-Guangzhou route is also serviced by China Southern Airlines and Himalaya Airlines. The entry of Nepal’s national carrier into this busy air corridor is expected to increase market competition and bring financial benefits to the corporation.

Adhikari expressed optimism about the new route’s potential to boost the airline’s revenue and enhance its reputation.

Broader Network and Future Expansion

With the inauguration of the Guangzhou service, Nepal Airlines now connects Kathmandu to 11 international cities. The airline utilizes its fleet of two narrow-body and two wide-body aircraft to serve a diverse range of destinations.

These include Doha (Qatar), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Dubai (UAE), Hong Kong, Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore (India), Bangkok (Thailand), Dammam (Saudi Arabia), and Narita (Japan).

In addition to the new Guangzhou flights, Nepal Airlines is actively planning for further expansion. Executive Chairman Adhikari revealed that the airline is in the process of starting direct flights to South Korea and Australia in the near future.

These new routes would further cement Nepal Airlines’ position as a key player in the regional aviation market and enhance global connectivity for Nepal.

A Symbol of National Pride

As the country’s national flag carrier, Nepal Airlines plays a vital role beyond just transportation. Its international flights are crucial for promoting diplomatic relations and attracting foreign tourists to Nepal.

The airline has historically served as a symbol of national pride, and its continued expansion is a source of optimism for the country’s aviation and tourism sectors.

The successful launch of the new Guangzhou route demonstrates a commitment to operational excellence and a strategic vision for future growth.
