He called for the formation of a parliamentary or high-level judicial committee to investigate the claims, which have been raised against leaders from the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, and his party.
Shera Darbar Case Sparks Controversy
Pun addressed the third convention of the Maoist Centre’s Riptikot village committee, stressing that recent issues such as the Shera Darbar case needed to be investigated. He suggested that the case was being used by Prime Minister KP Oli to divert attention from accusations against his government. Pun criticized the move, calling it an attempt to tarnish the reputation of opposition leaders.
Oli’s Alleged Financial Links Under Scrutiny
The Maoist leader also raised concerns over Prime Minister Oli’s alleged investments in Cambodia and the presence of funds in Swiss banks. Pun questioned whether Oli was prepared to allow an investigation into these financial dealings, as his name had been linked to irregularities in Giribandhu T-Street. Pun emphasized that if allegations were being raised against him, similar scrutiny should be applied to the ruling party.
Demand for Fair Investigations
Pun reminded the parliament of past instances where high-level judicial commissions and parliamentary committees had been formed to investigate corruption. He called for an independent inquiry process that would ensure accountability for all political figures, regardless of their party affiliations.
Abuse of Power for Political Gains
Pun criticized the government for using state institutions to target opposition leaders while protecting members of their party. He pointed to a minister from Oli’s party involved in human trafficking attempts who faced no legal consequences. Additionally, he highlighted the case of a cooperative scam where the culprit was released on bail swiftly.
Growing Concern Over Corruption and State Manipulation
Pun also expressed concern about the growing influence of middlemen and interest groups within the government. These groups, he claimed, have been manipulating state decisions for personal gain, such as the illegal sale of land and manipulation of major contracts.
Commitment to Good Governance
Despite the ongoing challenges, Pun reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing good governance and transparency. He emphasized that the Maoist Centre’s efforts to combat corruption and establish strong governance would not be halted, regardless of the obstacles faced.
