Nepal Drinking Water Budget Priority: Minister Yadav, Nagwa Project, Clean Water for All

Minister for Drinking Water, Pradeep Yadav, has assured that the next fiscal year’s budget will prioritize drinking water projects across Nepal. Speaking at the inauguration of the Nagwa Drinking Water Overhead Tank project in Birgunj Metropolitan City-16, he emphasized the government’s commitment to providing clean and safe drinking water to citizens by allocating adequate funds to the sector.

Commitment to Clean Water for All
Minister Yadav highlighted the importance of making drinking water accessible to every Nepali. He stated, “My main goal is to provide every citizen with clean and safe drinking water. We will allocate sufficient budget for water projects to ensure every citizen has access to clean water.”
The Minister outlined the government’s plan to provide clean, safe, and quality drinking water to all citizens in the fiscal year 2082/83. He stressed that increasing investments in sanitation would be vital for achieving the sustainable development goals. The ministry will work towards expanding drinking water access throughout Nepal, with a focus on integrating local communities and authorities to better manage water resources.
Expanding Water Access Nationwide
Minister Yadav noted that the government’s efforts would not only focus on urban areas but also extend to rural regions, the Terai, Himalayas, and hilly areas. He said, “In the upcoming year, our goal is to ensure clean and quality drinking water reaches all citizens. The entire ministry is committed to this cause, and we will work with local authorities and communities to run water projects more effectively.”
The Minister further assured that the ministry would enhance local coordination and consumer participation for smoother project execution. He stressed that this approach would help achieve the government’s broader goal of improving the drinking water sector’s reach and efficiency.
A Step Forward for Nagwa Residents
The Nagwa Drinking Water Overhead Tank project is expected to be completed within 18 months. Minister Yadav reassured the public that regular monitoring would ensure timely completion. This project aims to address the severe water shortage affecting local residents.
“I am proud to inaugurate this historic project that will directly benefit my constituency. Just as food, shelter, and clothing are basic needs, water is also a fundamental right. Today, we are taking one step further to secure this basic right for the people,” said Minister Yadav.

According to Arjunbabu Dhakal, the General Manager of the Drinking Water Corporation, the project will benefit approximately 3,500 households in wards 15 and 16 of Birgunj. He shared that the project would solve the ongoing water scarcity issues in the area. “Currently, local residents face daily difficulties due to the lack of water. After the project’s completion, they will receive a smooth, clean, and adequate water supply,” Dhakal stated.
Collaborative Effort and Local Participation
The event saw participation from several key local leaders, including Rajeshman Singh, Mayor of Birgunj Metropolitan City, Laxmi Devi, Ward Member of Ward No. 16, Ramesh Yadav, Ward Chairperson of Ward No. 15, and Pramod Yadav, Ward Member of Ward No. 16.
Other notable attendees included Sighasan Sah Teli, District President of the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) and Mayor of Bahudarmai Municipality, Ajay Sarraf, Chief of the District Coordination Committee, Parsa, Jannat Ansari, JSP Central Committee Member, and Purushottam Lal Jha, JSP Central Committee Member.
