This reconstruction will help restore vital infrastructure and connectivity in the affected regions. The approval comes as part of the government’s response to the natural disasters that caused widespread damage.

Reconstruction Plans for Roads and Bridges

The approved budget will support the restoration of 13 roads and 13 bridges. Key highways, including B.P. Highway, Mechi Highway, Araniko Highway, and Kanti Highway, will be prioritized. These roads are crucial for transportation, and their repair will restore connectivity in the affected areas.

Support for Jajarkot Earthquake Recovery

In addition to flood and landslide damage, the Ministry of Finance has extended support to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA). This funding will help restore structures damaged during the Jajarkot earthquake. The Ministry has approved the establishment of a temporary office and the creation of new positions to assist with the recovery efforts.

Timely Action to Address Infrastructure Needs

On February 16th, the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport submitted a request for funds to rebuild the damaged infrastructure. In response, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel decided to allocate the necessary resources. The aim is to speed up reconstruction and minimize disruptions to daily life in the affected regions.

Economic Impact and Long-Term Recovery

The funding will enable the swift restoration of vital infrastructure, which will help reinvigorate economic activities in the impacted regions. Restoring these essential structures will also improve the living conditions of the local communities.

Government’s Commitment to Resilience

This initiative highlights the government’s commitment to rebuilding Nepal’s infrastructure and enhancing resilience to future natural disasters. The Ministry of Finance’s swift action underscores the importance of timely disaster recovery. It also reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to manage and reduce disaster risks across the country.

Conclusion

With the allocation of NPR 18.88 billion, the government has taken a significant step towards restoring the country’s vital infrastructure. The reconstruction of roads and bridges will improve connectivity, while the support for earthquake recovery will help rebuild damaged structures. These efforts are a crucial part of Nepal’s long-term disaster resilience strategy.
