The Government of Nepal is set to launch a pilot program for a QR Code-Based File Tracking System, aimed at enhancing efficiency and transparency in government operations.

This initiative, developed by the Office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers, was approved during a meeting of secretaries chaired by Chief Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal. The system will streamline processes such as project preparation, and reporting, and remove duplication in infrastructure development projects.
The QR Code system will be implemented to track files, with the long-term goal of optimizing the allocation of funds and improving project execution, especially in cases where repeated projects remain incomplete or unused budgets persist.
This initiative is seen as a significant step toward improving project management and infrastructure development in Nepal.
Additionally, the meeting also made seven other key decisions, including expediting disaster relief efforts, temporary housing, and reconstruction initiatives.
All relevant agencies are tasked with ensuring the swift implementation of disaster risk reduction and management decisions taken by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on Kartik 2, 2081.
In another key development, the National Vigilance Center will monitor government offices for potential corruption by studying complaints filed through the Hello Sarkar platform. The report highlighted that over the years, Hello Sarkar received 16,135 complaints, with 48.40% of them being resolved by the concerned authorities.
The secretaries’ meeting also focused on improving government employee attendance and discipline, with instructions for all agencies to report employee performance and office discipline to the Prime Minister’s Office on a monthly basis.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology will upgrade the Integrated Data Management Center by adding permanent positions and improving software used by government offices.
The ministry will also enforce the use of a unified website management system across all government agencies to ensure uniformity and ease of updates.
The meeting also formed a task force to address issues with the Unified Government Email System, aiming to improve security and efficiency in official communication.
Finally, the secretaries’ meeting concluded with the decision to introduce an internship program for graduates from various universities in public service sectors.
A six-member committee, led by the Secretary of the Development Management Sector at the Prime Minister’s Office, has been given ten days to formulate a standardized structure for the program.
This series of decisions is part of the government’s broader effort to enhance governance, transparency, and efficiency through the adoption of modern technology and improved operational protocols.
