Nepal as a Hub for Investment

Prime Minister Oli emphasized that Nepal offers great investment opportunities. He invited Thai entrepreneurs to explore the growing investment landscape in Nepal. The Prime Minister assured that the Nepali government has made significant improvements to the legal framework to make the country more attractive for foreign investors.

Legal Reforms to Support Investments

Oli also highlighted that several laws have been revised to create a more investment-friendly environment in Nepal. These changes are designed to ensure the safety and security of investments, making it easier for businesses to operate. He reassured the Thai business community that the government is committed to providing a stable and supportive environment for foreign investments.

Private Sector Collaboration for Growth

In addition to government reforms, Prime Minister Oli called for closer cooperation between the private sectors of Nepal and Thailand. He stressed that such partnerships are essential to unlocking the full potential of the Nepali market. By collaborating with local businesses, Thai investors can explore new opportunities and contribute to Nepal’s economic growth.

FNCCI President Highlights Investment Opportunities

Chandra Prasad Dhakal, President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), was also part of the delegation. He discussed how Nepal has created a favorable environment for investment, thanks to legal improvements and stable foreign currency reserves. According to Dhakal, Nepal’s strategic location between India and China—two countries with large populations—provides additional advantages for Thai businesses looking to expand into new markets.

Key Sectors for Investment

Dhakal further pointed out that there are numerous sectors in Nepal where Thai investors could make a significant impact. These include tourism, energy, agriculture, information technology, and construction. He emphasized that these sectors offer substantial potential for growth and development.

Urging Thai Businesses to Invest in Nepal

According to Dhakal, the recent policy changes in Nepal have made the country more attractive for foreign investors. He also encouraged Thai business leaders to take advantage of these opportunities and invest in Nepal. “Nepal is a country with great investment potential, and the government’s recent reforms create an ideal environment for foreign investors,” Dhakal said.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

Prime Minister Oli’s visit to Thailand is part of a broader effort to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries. The official visit, which lasts from 1 to 5 April 2025, also includes Oli’s participation in the 6th BIMSTEC Summit. The summit focuses on fostering economic cooperation among countries in the Bay of Bengal region.

In conclusion, Prime Minister Oli’s meeting with Thai business leaders marks a significant step toward improving economic relations between Nepal and Thailand. The Prime Minister’s message is clear: Nepal is ready to welcome foreign investments that will contribute to its development and growth.
