Chandra Prasad Dhakal, President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), has called on Nepalese abroad to use their skills back home.

Speaking at Nepal Mahotsav 2025 in Dubai, he urged the diaspora to create opportunities within Nepal rather than seek them overseas. The festival was organized by the Embassy of Nepal in Abu Dhabi in partnership with the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) in Dubai.

Focus on Domestic Potential

Dhakal said Nepal holds enough growth potential. He stressed that energy, tourism, agriculture, and information technology can drive economic progress. According to him, these sectors can attract foreign investment and create local jobs.

He pointed to Dubai as an example of visionary planning. “The UAE has moved beyond oil. It is investing in tourism, finance, construction, and smart cities. It is now a global business hub,” he said. He encouraged Nepal to follow a similar model and diversify its economy.

Call for Strategic Leadership

Dhakal emphasized the need for long-term planning. He said development cannot happen without a clear vision and stable leadership. He believes Nepal must plan wisely to reach sustainable growth.

He also mentioned that strong leadership and consistent policy are key to attracting investors. “Investors need trust, and that comes with policy stability,” he added.

Promoting Culture Globally

Dhakal highlighted Nepal’s cultural wealth. He said festivals like Nepal Mahotsav can help showcase Nepal to the world. “Our art, heritage, and traditions are national treasures,” he said. “They can help build Nepal’s identity on the global stage.”

He said such events foster goodwill and connect the diaspora to their roots. They also strengthen diplomatic ties.

Strengthening Nepal–UAE Ties

FNCCI has been working to improve economic cooperation with the UAE. Dhakal recalled the Nepal–Dubai Business Forum held in December 2023. The event was hosted with support from the Embassy of Nepal in Abu Dhabi and the Dubai Chamber of Commerce.

“The forum helped business leaders explore investment opportunities,” he said. He believes continued collaboration can benefit both nations.

Respect for Migrant Workers

Dhakal expressed deep respect for Nepali migrant workers. He said their contributions fuel Nepal’s economy. “The private sector honors their efforts,” he stated. “We aim to build partnerships that benefit both countries.”

He said FNCCI remains committed to building bridges between Nepal and the UAE. “We are here to strengthen partnerships and promote mutual growth,” Dhakal concluded.

The event drew Nepali business leaders, diplomats, and professionals from across the Gulf. It showcased Nepal’s investment potential and highlighted the importance of cultural and economic diplomacy.
