Nepal Stem Cell Research Center Opens: A Healthcare Landmark
1st September 2025, Kathmandu
In a landmark achievement for Nepal’s healthcare sector, the country’s first-ever Stem Cell Research Center (NSCRC) has been established in Kathmandu.
Nepal Stem Cell Research Center
This pioneering initiative is poised to transform medical research and treatment in the region, offering new hope to patients with a range of complex diseases.
The new center was founded under the leadership of Ujjwal Bhandari, Dr. Raghuram Bhandari, and Amod Sharma. It features a state-of-the-art laboratory designed for advanced research.
A primary goal of the NSCRC is to produce high-quality stem cells, which will be supplied to hospitals and doctors across the country for clinical use.
Pioneering Research and Treatment
The NSCRC will focus on research and potential treatments for several critical health conditions, including:
Cancer
Blood-related disorders
Diseases affecting the immune system
While the legal framework for stem cell therapy in Nepal is still under development, the center’s establishment is seen by health experts as a promising and proactive step.
The ultimate vision is for Nepal to become a leading hub for stem cell research and treatment throughout South Asia.
The Promise of Stem Cells
Stem cells are considered a highly promising area in modern medicine due to their unique ability to develop into many different cell types.
They can be used to repair damaged organs, study the origins of diseases, and develop new medications. By bringing this advanced technology to Nepal, the NSCRC is setting the stage for future medical breakthroughs and improved patient care.
