Bandana Sharma has been awarded the prestigious National ICT Excellence Award 2025, recognizing her exceptional contributions to Nepal’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector.

This annual award, presented by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MoCIT), honors a woman who has made a transformative impact in the ICT landscape of Nepal.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and MoCIT Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung jointly presented this year’s award during a formal ceremony in Kathmandu. Sharma also received a cash prize of Rs. 100,000 for her achievements in the field.
Trailblazer in Digital Banking and Cybersecurity
As the Head of Cards and Digital Banking Division at Nepal Bank, Sharma has played a critical role in the bank’s digital transformation. She has led initiatives related to core banking systems, cybersecurity frameworks, digital infrastructure, and customer-centric digital services.
Beyond her role in banking, Sharma is the Founder of the Center for Cyber Security Research and Innovation (CSRI). Through CSRI, she actively promotes cybersecurity awareness in community schools across Nepal, aiming to build a digitally aware and resilient youth generation. Her work in this area has positioned her as one of Nepal’s leading voices in cybersecurity education.
A Recognized Leader in Nepal’s ICT Community
“She is an idol woman of Nepal’s ICT industry—honest, humble, hardworking, and dedicated, with over two decades of experience,” said Chiranjibi Adhikari, Senior Vice President of CAN Federation, noting that she is also a central executive member of the Federation.
“We are delighted to continue this collaboration to encourage women in ICT and recognize their contributions,” said MoCIT Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung during the ceremony.
From IT Support Officer to National Tech Leader
Sharma began her career at Nepal Bank in 2006 as an IT Support Officer. Over the past 19 years, she has consistently pushed the boundaries of innovation and inclusion in the digital banking sector. Her journey reflects a remarkable commitment to advancing technology in Nepal, not only in corporate systems but also in grassroots-level education and empowerment.
