Nepal Telecom (NTC), the public sector telecommunications company, has expanded its 4G mobile services to Machhapuchhre Base Camp and Annapurna Base Camp, two popular tourist hubs in the western part of Nepal.

This significant upgrade will benefit tourists trekking in the Annapurna area, as well as the local residents and business community, according to Nepal Telecom Managing Director Sangita Pahadee Aryal.

In addition to these base camps, NTC has also upgraded the network in Deurali, another nearby tourist hub, from 2G to 4G. This expansion aims to improve connectivity and support the increasing demand for reliable communication services in these high-altitude regions.

Annapurna Sanctuary, a high glacial basin located 40 kilometers north of Pokhara, is a major trekking destination.

The oval-shaped plateau, situated at an altitude of over 4000 meters, is encircled by the Annapurna range, with most peaks exceeding 7000 meters. The enhanced 4G service will provide better connectivity and safety for trekkers, while also supporting the local community and businesses in the region.

Furthermore, Nepal Telecom Spokesperson highlighted that the upgraded network will facilitate improved communication for both tourists and locals, enhancing their overall experience in the Annapurna region.

This is the first time that 4G telecommunication service has become available at such a high altitude, according to a Nepal Telecom press release. The expanded service at Machhapuchhre and Annapurna Base Camps marks a significant milestone in enhancing connectivity in remote mountainous regions.

In other news, a total of 17 candidates have submitted applications for the position of managing director at Nepal Telecom.

The vacancy was announced by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MoCIT) on June 4, 2024.
