12th November 2024, Kathmandu

Since November 12, 2024, protests have taken place outside the premises of Nepal Telecom’s Telecommunication Training and Research Center at Babarmahal, Kathmandu. As these demonstrations have led to misunderstandings among the public and media, Nepal Telecom has issued a statement to clarify the situation.

Nepal Telecom has explained that the company regularly engages third-party service providers for services like network expansion, maintenance, security, and cleaning through a bidding process.

Contracts are signed with private service providers for a fixed duration and specific tasks, as per the prevailing legal framework. Once these contracts expire, all obligations with the service providers also come to an end.

Currently, the cleaning service at the Babarmahal Training Center has been handed over to a new service provider selected through a competitive process.

Despite the contract with the previous provider having ended, some personnel associated with the former service provider have been protesting outside the premises with various demands.

Nepal Telecom has noted that these protestors have not only created disruptions but also impeded the new service provider’s employees from performing cleaning duties within the office premises.

Nepal Telecom has clarified that its obligations with the previous service provider have concluded, emphasizing that the company no longer has any responsibility or association with the former personnel.

The ongoing protests, which are causing disruptions to operations, are therefore unwarranted.
