Government-owned Nepal Telecom is set to adopt a new billing system to prevent revenue leakage, estimated at up to 11 percent. The company has solicited proposals to enhance its billing system with advanced technology.

Hari Dhakal, the spokesperson for Nepal Telecom, revealed that GFG Enterprises, an American company, is the sole applicant for the new billing system proposal opened on Wednesday.

The proposal will undergo technical and financial evaluation, and if deemed suitable, GFG Enterprises will be awarded the contract.

Despite the requirement for competitive e-bidding involving more than two companies, public procurement rules allow for the contract to proceed with a single proposal without a re-offer.

The contract for the new billing system is valued at over 4.5 billion rupees. This upgrade will replace the current Chinese technology provided by Huawei with American technology.

Nepal Telecom stated that the software currently used in their billing system is already from an American company, which does not support the Chinese system. The new contract will fully transition the telecom’s billing technology to American imports.
